Thank you to all of our excellent candidates standing in the 2023 Business Archives Section (BAS) election. Please take some time to review their candidate statements and get to know them so you can make an informed choice.
You will be voting for the following positions

The following candidate is running for the Vice Chair/Chair-Elect position:
Dave Moore
Archive & Digital Asset Manager
Carhartt
BIO:
Dave Moore was instrumental in establishing the archive program at Carhartt, a 134-year-old Michigan-based workwear company, and has served as their archivist and historian for the last nine years. In 2019, he also helped implement and took on management of Carhartt’s company-wide digital asset management system.
Dave earned a BA in Education from the University of Michigan, as well as an MA in History and a Graduate Certificate in Archival Administration from Wayne State University. He has been heavily involved with SAA, serving as Vice-Editor/Editor for the Business Archives Section (2018-2020) and as a member of the Nominating Committee (2021-2022).
Dave has also worked with the Midwest Archives Conference, helping organize and speaking at their first-ever business archives workshop in 2019. In addition to archives-specific organizations, he has also presented on panels for the National Council of Public History and the American Association of State and Local History exploring the work and unique challenges of business archives. Dave stays very involved locally as well, presenting on archives and Carhartt’s history for community organizations, continuing education programs, colleges, secondary schools, and public libraries.
CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT:
The BAS is the strongest professional organization that I have had the pleasure to be a part of. Simply put, I would not be where I am today without it. The connections that I’ve forged have been invaluable to my development as a business archivist, and there are more than a few that have evolved into tight-knit, lasting friendships. I am running for Vice Chair to help bring this type of experience to as many archivists as possible. No matter how long we’ve been in the industry, we all have something to contribute to and learn from our colleagues.
I saw this firsthand when I served as Vice-Editor/Editor for the BAS. Helping to launch “The Business Archives Section Quarterly” (basnewsonline.com) was an amazing experience, and it drove home the wealth of knowledge that business archivists have to share. As VC, I would seek to foster more opportunities like this for members to share their work and have meaningful dialogue together, both online and in-person at the Annual Meeting. I would also focus heavily on engaging with students and early career archivists. Having run an internship program at Carhartt for eight years, I’m consistently floored by their passion and innovation, especially when going into an industry with uncertain employment prospects. The BAS has a duty to engage with and lift up the next generation of archivists – we can only progress and evolve if we bring fresh perspectives to the table.
Secretary Candidates
The following candidates are running for the Secretary position:
Samantha Citarella
Assistant Archivist
Tiffany & Co.
BIO:
Sam is the Assistant Archivist at Tiffany & Co., where she works to preserve the most important records documenting the company’s manufacturing and design history. In consultation with the Archivist, she makes available archival collections that have the potential to be of the greatest value to the company’s business needs and inspire creativity among key company stakeholders. Prior to her role at Tiffany & Co., she worked at the Assistant Archivist at the New York Stock Exchange.
Sam received a MA in American Studies from George Washington University, a MS in Archives Management from Simmons University. She is passionate about preserving and managing archives and sharing history with others.
CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT:
I am running for Secretary because I wish to enrich my involvement with the Business Archives Section (BAS). For the past 3 years, I have served in Member-At-Large and Early Career Member positions. While these positions have established wonderful opportunities to network and form relationships with other business-minded archivists, I am ready to further develop my involvement in the BAS and feel I would be an excellent candidate for the Secretary position. If elected, I would keep timely and accurate notes from all section meetings, bring fresh new perspectives and ideas to the section, and continue to support the fantastic work being done by the BAS. Ciera Casteel
Collections Archivist
The Winthrop Group (Ford Motor Company Archives)
Since graduating from Wayne State University in 2019, I have held various collections management positions through The Winthrop Group at the Ford Motor Company Archives. In my current role as collections archivist, I have worked with our external vendor to digitize over 115,000 individual assets since 2021. I currently supervise a team of remote indexers working with digital assets to be uploaded to our DAM. In addition, I have led the Archives team in training and modifications to digitized brochures to increase accessibility for users with visual impairments. As a member of the Archives’ request team, I also regularly field internal and external research requests. For the past year, I have served as the backup Archives representative for media events and filming involving our department. We are lucky enough to also have a purpose-built exhibit space where I regularly assist in exhibit design and creation for company events. I also help to track our departmental budget and finances. In 2021, I became certified through the Academy of Certified Archivists.
CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT:
As many of us do, I wear many hats in the department and have tried to regularly take on more responsibility to assist the team. Through this experience I have learned the value of organization and note-taking to track my own work and the progress of those that I supervise. I have a task-oriented brain, so lists, notes, and spreadsheets are close friends of mine. I would love to be more involved with the Business Archives Section and be able to lend my experience and point of view to the steering committee.
As an early career archivist, I would hope to give voice to concerns of those recently entering the field and learning the quirks of corporate archives. I believe that being an archival consultant through The Winthrop Group provides me with a unique perspective to represent other agency employed archivists as well. I am very honored to be considered for the position of secretary for the Business Archives Section and look forward to the potential opportunity to work more closely with all of you!

CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT:

Providing access to information is one of my greatest joys as an archivist. I love finding the missing piece of the puzzle that someone is looking for, whether it be for an employee or an external researcher. I am running for Vice Editor of the BAS Steering Committee, because I want to help business archivists share their amazing collections and work with others. I have experience as a content creator (check out Collections Conversations from the National Museum of the American Sailor on YouTube!), and content wrangler, most recently ending a three-year stint as the Secretary for the Friends of Penn State Crew group. I’m particularly proud of the success of the group’s “where are they now” series on Instagram (@psucrewfriends) featuring alumni. It was a real labor of love. It significantly increased our alumni engagement and increased the team’s archival photo collection at the same time! I hope to utilize the skills I’ve acquired to help the BAS tell our stories, too.

Scott Grimwood
Archives Manager
SSM Health and the Franciscan Sisters of Mary
Scott has been with SSM Health since September 2004.
Scott has 30 years’ experience in the archives field and is a member of several archival organizations including the Society of American Archivist, the Midwest Archives Conference and the Archivists and Museum Professionals in the History of the Health Sciences. He is a long-time member of the Business Archives Section and is a past vice-chair and chair of the group. Scott is a past member of the SAA Committee on Public Awareness (COPA) and is soon departing the Crisis, Disaster & Tragedy Response Working Group. In 2019 and 2023 Scott organized business archives meetings at the Midwest Archives Conference annual meetings. Scott has a BA in History from the University of Michigan – Dearborn, a MLIS (with Certificate in Archival Administration) from Wayne State University in Detroit and is a Certified Archivist.
CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT:
I would be honored to be elected Education Chair for the Business Archives Section. I would continue the great work of the current, and past, Education Chairs to help put together high quality business archives focused sessions for SAA Annual Meeting. I would like to also help promote business archives education at regional archives meetings such as MARAC and MAC to reach as wide an audience as possible.

The following candidate is running for Member-at-Large
Kerri Anne Burke
Global Curator, The Citi Heritage Collection
Citigroup
Kerri Anne and has been with Citigroup since 2010. She is responsible for the use and care of the collection as well building the collection, which dates from 1812 to the present. She is a graduate of Long Island University’s Palmer School of Library and Information Science with a Masters of Library and Information Science and an Advanced Certificate in Archives and Record Management. Previous archival experience includes The Winthrop Group, The New-York Historical Society, NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives and the Lower East Side Tenement Museum.
CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT:
I have greatly benefited from the Business Archives Section and its community of business archivists as an archivist for the past thirteen years. I’ve been the Secretary for the BAS Steering Committee for the past year and I’m keen to continue to support its mission and fellow corporate archivists.
As a member-at-large for BAS, I would bring past volunteer experiences with Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference, and project management know-how.
