Description

A research opportunity is available in the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED) in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The fellowship will support the Office of Antimicrobial Resistance (AR) Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED). The selected candidate will train with and assist the project team and team lead, the Associate Director for Antimicrobial Resistance. The participant will be involved in training activities to learn how to interact with internal and external partners, conducting tracking research for reporting on departmental issues, learning how to do research on AR objectives, and training how to read and write proposals.

Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will have the opportunity to be involved in the following activities:

  • Researching Antimicrobial issues
  • Assisting in preparing and monitoring budgets
  • Communicating with Stakeholders
  • Assisting in drafting and reviewing documents and reports
  • Participating in Branch and Team meetings
  • Maintaining communication with project leaders

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, GA, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. 

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should have received a master's degree in public health. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.

Preferred skills:

  • Interest in the topics of antimicrobial resistance (AR) and One Health
  • Interest in gaining experience on how to coordinate multiple projects and activities related to AR across a number of internal and external partners
