Description

A fellowship opportunity is available with the Community Guide Branch (CGB), in the Division of Public Health Information Dissemination (DPHID), within the Center of Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services (CSELS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

DPHID supports the work of the Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF), an independent, non-Federal panel of experts that provides evidence-based findings and recommendations on community preventive services, programs, and other interventions aimed at improving population health. The Community Guide is the online repository of CPSTF recommendations and findings.

Staff within the CGB manage communications and coordination of the CPSTF's Liaisons, 32 national organizations and federal agencies with stakeholder interest in the use of CPSTF recommendations and findings to improve population health. Additional partners of importance include CDC programs and state, territorial, local, and tribal health departments.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with CGB leadership and staff to conduct policy and partnership activities. Under the guidance of CGB's policy lead, the participant will learn and improve skills needed for the following activities:

  • Assess CPSTF Liaison organizations and agencies to determine strategic interests and identify intersections to further partner engagement within the group and at CDC
  • Support CGB leadership communication by developing and disseminating programmatic information to CPSTF Liaisons regarding CPSTF meetings and special projects
  • Collaborate with CGB policy and dissemination staff to develop and disseminate summary information to CPSTF Liaisons for use with their constituents
  • Assist with the preparation of materials and coordination of webinars for new and existing users of The Community Guide
  • Assist in developing briefing materials including slides, one-pagers, or other to communicate program goals and public health impact
  • Assist CGB leadership with establishing and sustaining partnerships with CDC programs to evaluate use of CPSTF recommendations to identify impact

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
