Cops: Woman, 36, dies after house fire in Bay Terrace

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A 36-year-old woman has died from injuries suffered during a fire at her family home in Bay Terrace last week, according to police.

Sources identified the victim as Nataliya (Natalie) Alkanovich, 36.

The FDNY previously said that five people, including two firefighters, were injured in the blaze, which started last Tuesday at around 2:48 a.m. in a townhouse complex at 296 Timber Ridge Drive.

Her mother, Yelizave (Liza), 54, is in critical but stable condition, according to source with knowledge of the incident.

Her father, Leonid Alkanovich, 64, has been released from the hospital, the source said.

“A terrible tragedy hit the Alkanovich family on Tuesday, April 14th," said a message on a GoFundMe page set up for the family. "An uncontrollable fire quickly ripped through their condo destroying everything in its path. "

The fundraiser was set up before the 36-year-old woman died.

“Those of us who are lucky to know Natalie, Liza, and the entire family know that they are the most kind, generous, and caring people in the world," the GoFundMe statement said. “They always help everyone who is in need and right now they need our help.”

“Today the world lost a beautiful angel, one of my best friends, my partner in crime and a soul sister,” said a tribute posted by a friend on Facebook. “One of the most empathetic, kind and magical people. I’m at a loss for words but I’m grateful to have known, loved and learned from you Natalie Alkanovich."

Neighbor Terry Marsh said that Natalie, who had returned to live with her parents, sometimes would be outside when he was walking his dog.

“She was nice,” Marsh said, “She used to play with my dog once in a while.”
