As a member of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS), the Community College of Aurora (CCA) is dedicated to serving our surrounding community.  As the most diverse institution of higher education in Colorado, CCA is currently the college choice for nearly 11,400 students representing over 60 countries, with 62% of our enrollment represented by students of color. The Director of Student Life is responsible for department leadership, supervision, and administration of student engagement activities and programs for the Community College of Aurora. This includes support and oversight for campus-wide co-curricular events and activities, development and management of a comprehensive leadership program, and facilitation of community engagement initiatives. The Director will assist with the establishment of a student culture where diversity is valued, and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership. The Director will lead planning for the Spring Commencement Ceremony and advise Student Government Association, and support student-led initiatives. This position supervises full-time and student staff, and reports to the Dean of Students.
 

Student Engagement
 

  • Oversee the planning, organization, promotion, and evaluation of co-curricular student learning opportunities that:
    1. Identify and incorporate the interests and needs of CCA’s diverse student body
    2. Encourage student personal, social, and intellectual growth and development
    3. Promote sense of belonging and commitment to Inclusive Excellence
  • Establish peer mentoring opportunities for CCA students that create a sense of belonging.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive student leadership program that incorporates a social change or social justice education framework.
  • Provide leadership and direction for CCA Student-Led Organization development and enhancement.
  • Manage student risk management and student travel, including developing and implementing policies, educating the campus community on processes, securing and retaining appropriate waivers and releases, and organizing trainings with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Serve as the Primary Advisor for Student Government Association, including leadership development of student officers and members, participation at national conferences and bi-weekly meetings, and training facilitation.
  • Provide leadership on student community engagement activities, including but not limited to, semesterly community engagement fairs, volunteer opportunities, and the promotion of community engagement.
  • Develop and disseminate a semesterly campus event calendar on a semester-by-semester basis.
 
Supervision & Administration

  • Supervise and provide professional and personal development opportunities for Assistant Director (full-time), Administrative Assistant (full-time), and student ambassadors.
  • Lead the planning committee for Spring Commencement Ceremony, including working with a broad range of campus constituents and administrators.
  • Oversee the Student Laptop Loan Program, including but not limited to tracking, dissemination of laptops, technological support, and sustainability strategies for the program.
  • Prepare, administer, and manage operating budgets and expenditures; perform analysis and reporting to support decision making; demonstrate responsible fiscal management.
  • Facilitate the assessment and evaluation processes of all department events, activities, and programs; compile and analyze reports related to student participation and program evaluation; develop organizational work processes which facilitate attainment of established department and program goals and outcomes.
  • Provide support and guidance for department administrative functions, such as room reservations, facilities, space, and IT requests and work orders, contracts, and general paperwork flow.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with faculty/instructors and staff in an effort to create intentional and cross-discipline initiatives.
  • Serve on the Retention Committee, Student Affairs Leadership Team, Tobacco-Free Task Force, Inclusive Excellence Council, and participate in college and division meetings and professional development opportunities.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
 
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty/instructors, staff and community members of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate commitment and experience incorporating Inclusive Excellence or social justice education concepts in professional roles.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team leader.
  • Ability to multi-task and be self-motivated
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional nights, weekends and overnights as needed.
  • Ability to drive between CCA CentreTech & Lowry campuses, as needed.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in student affairs, counseling, higher education or a closely related field.
  • Progressive leadership experience working in a higher education setting, community-based organization or related field.
  • Experience working in student life, student activities, residence life or related area.
  • Experience in presenting workshops and/or public speaking.
  • Experience working with equity, diversity or inclusive excellence initiatives.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in program development and implementation, and assessment of activities and events.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from varying racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds with appropriate race/ethnicity-consciousness
  • Experience as an advisor for student clubs and organizations.
  • Experience providing supervision and performance management for professional staff
  • Experience and knowledge applying principles and practices that encourage student engagement and belonging
  • Experience planning large events.
  • . Understanding of varying leadership styles and principles and experience developing leadership programming for students.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functional departments and work with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in a community college setting.
Bilingual preferred. 

Salary Range:  Salary range is $57,200.00 to $60,00.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan. Leave and holiday benefits are also included. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
