As a member of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS), the Community College of Aurora (CCA) is dedicated to serving our surrounding community.  As the most diverse institution of higher education in Colorado, CCA is currently the college choice for nearly 11,400 students representing over 60 countries, with 62% of our enrollment represented by students of color. POSITION SUMMARY:              
 
As a key member of the President’s Cabinet, this position provides leadership, direction, and support for college-wide initiatives to create and sustain a culture of Inclusive Excellence (IE) at the Community College of Aurora (CCA). 
This means examining, recommending, and leading changes to college-wide practices, policies, procedures, services, curricular and co-curricular activities using the tenants of Inclusive Excellence. 
 
College IE goals include increasing the diversity of our employees, embracing and valuing the diversity of our college community, retaining our diverse students and employees, and closing the equity gap for our Students of Color. In order to achieve these goals, the College Equity and Inclusion Officer (CEIO) will need to create and maintain strong internal and external relationships that promote growth in CCA’s IE work.  CCA is a collaborative college, requiring the person in this position to facilitate connections between college departments to achieve equity goals and create equitable outcomes. The person in this position should be a subject matter expert in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion and will be integral in the College’s efforts to achieve these outcomes.

Inclusive Excellence Council 

  • Chair and advise the IE Council and the IE Leadership Team. 
  • Lead campus-wide strategic efforts to operationalize Inclusive Excellence throughout every function of the college, aligning its work with CCA’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plans. 
  • Provide direction to each committee of the IE Council regarding initiatives, programs, and requests while providing support for actions and assessment of their outcomes.
  • Research and share diversity and inclusion related data, efforts, trends, and innovations to relevant stakeholders to assess and inform strategic plan goals.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research to coordinate ongoing assessments of diversity, equity, and inclusion experiences and outcomes for students, staff, faculty and instructors.  
  • Manage budget for the IE Council and equity-related initiatives for the college.
 
Institutional Cross-Collaboration 
  • Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of the IE Strategic Plan with all divisions. 
  • Use IE Strategic Plan to inform processes, College guidelines, and practices to eliminate systemic and structural barriers to further access and increase success for students and employees who belong to marginalized groups. 
  • Advise and participate in efforts to achieve equitable outcomes in student persistence, completion, and transfer with both Academic and Student Affairs divisions of the College. 
  • Support and collaborate with Student Affairs in co-curricular programming and student services.
  • Support and collaborate with Academic Affairs to promote Inclusive Excellence through Inclusive Pedagogy across course curriculums.
 
Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Committee
  • Serve on the HSI Committee.
  • Support the work of the HSI Committee in developing and implementing an HSI strategic plan that transitions the college toward understanding and applying HSI “Servingness.” 
  • Support and collaborate with the college community to be mindful of being Hispanic-serving in teaching and learning across curricular and co-curricular programming.
 
Employee Recruitment and Retention 
  • Facilitate the development of systemic structures to recruit and retain diverse applicant pools. 
  • Develop and provide search committee training on Implicit Bias and inclusive search practices.
  • Participate in onboarding and ongoing professional development for new employees.
  • Review and consult on data related to employee diversity (EEO/AA function) and make evidence-based recommendations that assure compliance with EEO, OCR and Title IX regulations.
 
Training/Professional Development
  • Assess complex needs for equity and inclusion-related programs for employees and students and facilitate/advise on the development and delivery of these programs.
  • Maintain a college-wide Inclusive Excellence staff training program for employees to support their understanding of how to create inclusive campus environments and learn equitable strategies to support CCA’s diverse student population as well as decrease potential OCR and Title IX complaints. Provide revisions and updates to this training as needed.
  • Educate and inform the college community on the philosophy, actions, and outcomes that constitute Inclusive Excellence.
  • Advise campus departments in assessing Inclusive Excellence efforts. 
  • Provide guidance to support departmental efforts to more completely integrate IE into policies, procedures, services, and activities to create more equitable outcomes for students. 
  • Prepare and disseminate information for the College on equity and inclusion related initiatives, activities, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Affairs division on providing Inclusive Pedagogy and equity-minded professional development for faculty and instructors. 
 
Additional Duties 
  • Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet. 
  • Assist as requested in the resolution of concerns or conflicts involving students or employees, which are related to issues of identity that impact the complaints or evaluation process.
  • Supervise one FTE Training Coordinator for Inclusive Excellence.  
  • Partner with the President and other college employees in outreach to the individuals, communities, and organizations the College serves.
  • Assist in identifying and preparing grant proposals that support equity and inclusion efforts at the College.
  • Create a bias response process guided by a restorative justice framework for identity related incidents.
  • Actively participate in the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) Equity & Inclusion Council. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  

  • Master’s degree in Diversity/Inclusion/Social Justice, Student Development, Higher Education Leadership, Social Work, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.  
  • Experience at a community college and/or supporting historically marginalized populations.
  • Experience in equity, diversity, and inclusion training.
  • Demonstrated leadership of initiatives or programs specific to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated high level understanding of diversity, equity, access, social justice, and Inclusive Excellence.
  • Demonstrated competency navigating and facilitating difficult conversations on race, sex, class, gender, age, religion, ability, nationality, language, and all other identities.
  • Demonstrated competency in a restorative justice model.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, manage change, resolve conflicts, and build consensus.
  • Capacity to communicate effectively orally, electronically, and in writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Salary Range:  Salary range is $76,000.00 to $82,000.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan. Leave and holiday benefits are also included. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
