You won’t have to smile for the camera to renew your Pa. driver’s license. PennDOT to use old pics

Pa. driver's license

Because of the coronavirus, PennDOT will be using old photos for driver's license and ID card renewals.

If you don’t like the current photo on your Pennsylvania driver’s license, you’re out of luck.

Because of the coronavirus, PennDOT is going to be using that old pic when you renew your license or your state-issued identification card.

“Using a customer’s existing photo will help limit the number of people in our driver and photo license centers, and by extension, help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19,” said Acting PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian said Tuesday. “This new process is not only a convenience, but it will help to keep our customers and staff safe."

Those who already have renew their licenses or ID cards online or by mail after May 10 will receive their new ones by mail with the current photo attached. No camera cards, which require new photos to be taken at the license centers, will be issued to those people, Gramian said.

However, those who renewed their licenses and cards before May 10 will receive photo cards and must have a new picture taken at a license center.

Pennsylvanians who were hoping to secure REAL ID cards will have to wait because that system has been suspended due to the pandemic, Gramian said. She said temporary ID cards are available.

License and ID renewals can be done online at www.dmv.pa.gov.
