A second person in the nation has died from coronavirus in the Seattle area, Washington health officials reported Sunday evening. They confirmed three other new cases of coronavirus, or COVID-19, in King County, bringing the total number in the Seattle area to ten and in the state to 12.
The elderly man died Saturday while hospitalized at EvergreenHealth in Kirkland. His is one of the two deaths reported in Washington, the only coronavirus deaths in the nation to date.
All four newly identified patients lived at LifeCare, a Kirkland skilled nursing facility that previously reported two other cases.
The remaining three newly identified patients are also hospitalized at EvergreenHealth and include two females, one in her 80s and one in her 90s and one man in his 70s. All have underlying health conditions and are in critical condition, according to the release.
Washington’s first death, reported Saturday, was a man in his 50s, also with underlying health conditions.
Oregon’s first COVID-19 diagnosis was reported Friday involving a Washington County man who works at Forest Hills Elementary in Lake Oswego, resulting in the closure of the school. The patient is currently hospitalized in Hillsboro.
The King County Executive’s Office plans to convene with local and state public health officials Monday to review the case and discuss a response for King County.
