In order to opt-out of the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan, your insurance plan must offer equivalent or greater coverage provided by the NSU Student Insurance Plan. Your insurance plan must meet all six requirements listed below established in accordance with the Affordable Care Act.
1.The insurance policy is based in the United States with an U.S. telephone number and billing address.
2.The policy is not a traveling policy. Travel policies are created for international students traveling to the U.S. but have limited health insurance coverage.
3.The insurance plan must provide primary care, specialty care, urgent care, emergency care, and mental healthcare within 25-mile radius of registered NSU campus or near place of residence for online registered students.
4.The plan provides inpatient and outpatient mental health care and chemical dependency benefits.
5.The plan provides coverage for prescription medication.
6. The lifetime benefit is unlimited.
In order to access the waiver, you must be registered and charged for student health. Log into NSU eBill to monitor your student account. An approved waiver is not a guarantee of approval as it will be audited for accuracy.
Waivers must be completed by your program's deadline . If you miss the deadline, you will remain enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan for the full semester/term, and you will be responsible for payment. You will have another opportunity to opt out for the next semester/term by the next waiver deadline.
If your existing health insurance does not meet all six waiver criteria your waiver will be denied. If you believe that your insurance coverage does meet the waiver criteria, you must promptly submit a request to appeal.
In order for your appeal to be considered, you must email your request and fulfill all further instructions within 72 hours of your waiver denial.
Your request for appeal must be emailed to studenthealth@nova.edu. Please include the following information:
Please note, you must request an appeal before your program’s waiver deadline. If your program’s waiver deadline has passed, your waiver will remain denied.
If you wish to enroll in the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan after a waiver has been approved, you may do so within 30 days of experiencing a qualifying life event (i.e., involuntary loss of coverage) within your academic year.
