Coffee Shop in Union Square Set to Close

The famed Union Square restaurant and bar has been open for 28 years

Manhattan's famed Coffee Shop bar and restaurant will be closing after the summer.

The Union Square staple is set to shutter on Oct. 11 after nearly three decades in business, the New York Post first reported.

Co-owner Charles Milite told the Post he was breaking the news to the 150 employees Thursday.

"The times have changed in our industry," he said. "The rents are very high and now the minimum wage is going up, and we have a huge number of employees."

The sceney eatery was frequently featured on the "Sex and the City" TV series.

The news comes a year after another iconic Union Square restaurants announced its closure: last summer, Thai noodle shop Republic said it would be closing by the end of 2017. It has since moved out.
