Hsin-Yu Chen, PhD ([email protected]) completed her doctorate in leisure studies with a specialization in anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University. Her research brings a transdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspective to studying skin color’s meanings and ramifications for identity development, social inequality, human behavior, lived experiences, and health outcomes. She also studies college students’ time use in relation to personal values, health, learning, and development. Hsin-Yu’s awards include an Africana Research Center Research Grant, the Herberta M. Lundegren Graduate Scholarship, and a 2016–17 Kligman Graduate Fellowship. Her column for the JCC’s newsletter presents personal reflections aimed at fostering discussion of diversity-related issues.
