You're reading: Saakashvili’s party gets registered for elections

The Central Electoral Commission registered Mikheil Saakashvili’s party, the Movement of New Forces, late in the evening on June 29, clearing the party’s way to participate in the snap parliamentary elections on July 21.

The party resubmitted its registration documents hours after prevailing against the commission in the Supreme Court of Ukraine. The commission had previously refused to register the Movement of New Forces after calling into question the correctness of the party’s documents.

According to the commission’s Facebook statement, the Movement of New Forces has 88 candidates on the party list, as well as nine candidates in single mandate districts.

The dispute between the party and the Central Electoral Commission arose because the party made its decision to participate in the elections on May 8. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his decision to hold the snap elections on May 21.

The Movement of New Forces party has also registered attorney Pavlo Bohomazov as its representative in the Central Electoral Commission.
