The Chronicles of the 8th Dimension #3

Awakening: Rise as the Fall Unfolds

Rate this book
The multiverse is in shambles without all its pieces in place and the darkness is coming for them. Five angels have to pull a course correction—but they have to all agree first.

Morgan’s been a psychic, tasked with awakening angels in her dimension for the past twenty years. Finding this purpose and calling was a blessing… and a curse. She never expected it would lead her to a single supernatural suicide mission to save all of creation, with the final five angels at her side.

All they have to do is figure out the missing piece and how their individual angelic gifts fit together. Too bad their humanity is clouding their judgment and none of them can get on the same page long enough to make a coordinated plan.

When they finally realize the missing piece and how they fit into the puzzle, it means leaving behind everything they’ve ever known in the hopes of changing fate. The decision isn’t taken lightly. But if they don’t accept their roles and come together, none of it will matter.

If they fail, existence ceases.

Again, for obvious reasons, I've read this book. ;)

However, Awakening for me is a completely different beast of a book. I never anticipated dropping into the rabbit hole of alternative history combined with supernatural thrillers. But here we are.

This title all came about because of a simple question: What if Jesus never existed?

But more than that, what if angels weren't all that different from you or I?

The end is near. Fix it or the world is gone. No pressure.

With their world literally falling apart, five total strangers are torn away to solve the crisis before it is too late. But they have no clue what is wrong. And they are hunted. By darkness itself. Fortunately, each of the five has a unique talent. They must depend on each other. Must trust one another. No easy task.

Carissa Andrews leads us on a thought-provoking, spiritual journey with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance. Fail and it all ends. Their doubts and fears feel real. Their dialog compelling.

Something is missing. Something important. It may not be what you expect. It may challenge the truth as we know it. Without the missing piece, how could you possible save a world teetering on the edge of destruction? Sometimes fiction can be stranger than truth. Believe it or not, I enjoyed journey.

Unexpected

I really enjoyed reading this book - it was not what I expected at all and maybe if I had any inkling of the story I might not have read it- but I am quite delighted I did.

4 CRANKY STARS

Well, this is not an easy book to review. I couldn’t decide whether to give it 3, 3.5 or 4 stars but ultimately decided on 4 stars. I’m also not sure if this is a Christian story or not. My fear is that some Christians may become upset with the way the ending is handled. I am Christian but not practicing and was offended by how the whole story was handled. I have read lots of books about Angels and Demons. Unfortunately, this one really upset me.

The story starts out well. A young couple is stuck in a traffic jam in California trying to get to Canada. They feel it will be safer up there. It seems that people have gone missing mysteriously all around the world. Not just one or two at a time but sometimes hundreds at once. Then there is a loud Boom. The young husband leaves his wife in the car and, along with another man move up the line of cars to see what is happening. Suddenly they are joined by two women. Then the whole story gets strange. They turn around and all the cars and their occupants are gone. The young husband doesn’t want to leave but the one woman with a car that works, convinces them to go to her house. Her house turns out to be an old church and her husband is waiting for them.

Then the story starts to get weird. I don’t want to give spoilers so suffice it to say, the author introduces us to the Angels and Demons. The whole subject of Christianity is brought up and it is discovered that it is missing in this dimension. The story tells how they must accept who they are and how they will save this dimension. This is where I became offended by what was happening. Please try this book for yourself if you like Angel and Demon stories. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.

I loved this excellent book so much.

I read this book before realising that it was number three in a series. Not that it mattered to me at the time, but I will be reading the others at some point anyway.

Personally, I think that the author made a huge mistake making public what the simple question was that started her off with 'Awakening'. Luckily, I didn't see it until after I'd finished. When I came to this particular revelation in the book, I audibly gasped. It's a fantastic idea and Ms Andrews does it so well, with feeling, lots of emotion, well thought-out and honest writing, dangerous adventure, and most importantly of all, the characters must have complete trust in each other, and we as readers must have faith in them. How can they do this when some of them have no confidence in themselves?

The weight of mankind's fate rests on their shoulders alone, whilst being attacked from all sides, and the reader feels this - physically, mentally and spiritually - you are pulled this way and that, and you may meet your end. How strong is your love and belief in these people and this world? Total and absolute. A brilliant read.

I chose this book from a selection of others, then voluntarily read and honestly reviewed it. All opinions are my own.

Definitely loved this book. It takes you on a few twists and turns. All you want to do is see if they make it in time and how things will end up. Pretty sneaky ending though.

Five strangers have been pulled together by some unforeseen force and have just discovered who and what they are. The five strangers have just been told that they are angels and that they have a mission to complete or the world as they know it will be no more.

The five angels each have their own special powers and must figure out what they are and how to use them before the darkness comes. The five angels must learn to work together if they are to save the world. They must each put aside their attitudes and their beliefs and open their eyes as to what is before them. They must come together as one if they ever hope to save the world.

There is something missing in the world and to save it the five angels must find this missing piece and put it back together again if they ever hope to make things right again.

The world is made up of goodness and evil and you must know one if you are ever going to know the other. You can't know one without knowing the other. Sometimes one over powers the other and right now evil is at its most powerful and the darkness is about to hit upon the world. They need to find this missing link to stop the darkness and to put balance back into humans and the world once again.

Awakening is a fast paced read with twists and turns to keep the pages rolling from beginning to end with lots of surprises in between that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more.

I would recommend Awakening to all fans of angels, demons and the world coming to an end type of stories.

I will start this off by saying that this book was extremely interesting to read and I was engaged throughout it, but I was NOT expecting the story I read with the blurb that was provided. After reading the book and re-reading the blurb I can SEE how it does fit, but it was a bit misleading to me and give the book a 4 outta 5.

Key Takeaways from the Book:
-Religion is mentioned a lot in here and has a pretty profound meaning. So, if you are a bit touchy on your religious beliefs and Christianity- this is probably not the story for you.
- The characters are extremely well written, their actions and explained well throughout their character ARC.
- The overall story is thoughtfully created and an interesting *AH HA* moment definitely happens towards the end. I am not sure how I feel about how it all plays out though because even though this book is portrayed as Science Fiction/Urban Fantasy, there are just a few things are hitting fairly close to home.

All in all, this book is extremely well written with an interesting story and well thought out characters. If you are even remotely a bit touchy with religion/Christianity- you will more than likely not enjoy reading this. But, if you have an open mind and do not connect the story with real life, then you will enjoy the book!

PS: Thank you to Carissa Andrews and Xpresso Book Tours for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

This was a very entertaining and fast paced read. It’s not my typical book I would pick, but I really enjoyed the way the author took me on a ride and got me to really invest in her characters. Now I just want to say that ending was something else and I want to know more!

Awakening is a standalone story in the 8th Dimension series.

I love Carissa Andrews Pemdomus Series, it is brilliant, and the Oracle is also very good with wonderful characters. The first third of this book has a great mix of characters and interesting story line, I love books written about angels, and then I hit a road bump. I must admit I had mixed feelings about this book at first. All the players are relatively lined up and the story underway then Christianity was brought to the story as being a missing piece to the puzzle. Yes my fears went up and I put the book down. Then again I want to give the book a fair chance and started reading again. I am so glad I did! Ms. Andrews was able to tie it's importance into the story in such a way that peaked my sceptical interest, much like Thea's, and showed it's relevance. I Iove how the group was about to prevent the oncoming apocalypse and the interdimensional travel that assisted in going back 2000 years to right a missing piece. So if you are a bit sceptical like me and Thea, hang in there, you will be delighted.

WAY out there

I've read the other 2 previous books in this "series" if you can even call it that. Even read in order this is entirely disjointed. And they don't become clearer the further you read. So, if you're like me and try to hang in there and hope the storyline will develop and all will be clear, let me save you some time..it doesn't become clear. And the storyline is so far out there I can't even describe it as interesting much less thought provoking. I'm done trying.

Great book, follows Final Five

This book is fantastic! I love the way it's paced. The book picks up pretty close to where Final Five leaves off. You could probably read it without having read Final Five, but I don't think it will make near as much sense. Intense, seriously crazy plot twists and turns you won't see coming, which is great. Last chapter is by far and away the best. Read Love is a Merciless God already, and it's the follow up to this, but I feel like I need to go back and read it again for New perspective! This is an absolute must-read!!!

Wow!!! Do you believe in ...

Gods, goddesses, the Bible, non believers, different realities and planes of existence. This book has it all and is enthralling! From the very first sentence, you wonder just what is going on & what is happening. Then you find out, and it's like a beautiful miracle. Then, the twist! Whew! This is really well written and the characters are incredible.

This is a really great story! Carissa Andrews is a very good writer and it shows. This book follows 5 people - 5 misfit angels - as they band together to save the world. They have to learn to trust each other and work together to have any hope of succeeding. The story is full of twists and the unexpected! It’s thought provoking and I highly enjoyed it!

35% is all I could handle

35% is all I could handle before skipping to the last chapter to end my misery. The pacing was slow, the characters were all whiny and overall soft. I love a good Angel story but didn’t expect the “Jesus is our only hope” undertones. Ack! 🤢

Amazing Read!

This is an amazing read that is very well written with twists, turns, and adventure in the world of angels.  While it has religious overtones, it is not a preachy religious book in any way. In fact, I liked the way the author handled the different religions and the way the book ended.
