Should Browns ditch Baker Mayfield? ESPN analysts debate

Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals, December 29, 2019

Should the Browns consider moving on from Baker Mayfield? Or is it a "ridiculous" question?cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – It appeared to be a bit of a slow news day for ESPN on Monday. The group of analysts on “Get Up!” kicked things off by talking about Tom Brady’s free agency, before moving on to Cleveland Browns quarter Baker Mayfield’s future (It wasn’t the smoothest of transitions).

Much of the segment was in response to an epic rant from ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith last week, in which Smith took Browns GM Andrew Berry to task for supporting Baker Mayfield. Maybe Smith expected the Browns’ new general manager to bash Mayfield:

The analysts on “Get Up!” all seemed to agree that it’s way too soon to give up on Mayfield, with host Mike Greenberg going as far as to call it ridiculous.

“The notion that you would be even considering giving up on him at this pint strikes me as ridiculous,” Greenberg said after pointing out how bad the Browns were prior to Mayfield’s arrival.

There was some suggestion that the Browns should add one of the many quality veteran quarterbacks on the market to help push Mayfield next season. Still, NFL insider Dan Graziano reiterated that Mayfield need stability.

“It’s too soon to know about this 24 year-old,” said Graziano. “He’s about to have his fourth different NFL coach and he’s going on his third season.”
