CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Forty-two police academy cadets were sworn in at Cleveland City Hall on Friday to become full-fledged members of the Cleveland police department.
Mayor Frank Jackson, Safety Director Michael McGrath and Cleveland police Chief Calvin Williams administered the oath of office to the cadets, who comprise the 138th class to graduate from Cleveland's police academy.
The new officers underwent more than 1,100 hours of training in Columbus and then Cleveland ahead of Friday's ceremony. They will soon be assigned to one of Cleveland's five police districts, where they will serve as basic patrol officers, according to a new release.
The addition of 42 new officers brings the department's total officer count to approximately 1460, Cleveland police Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.
