Six Shooter Coffee finds new home in Waterloo neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Six Shooter Coffee has upgraded to a new, sleek space at 15613 Waterloo Road, just a couple of blocks down the road from its old home.

The move had great timing. In November, the old location at 16021 Waterloo Road was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident.

“It was what I assume to be an intoxicated driver (who) took a wide turn on the street and ran into our building,” owner Peter Brown said. “We don’t know for sure, because we never found the person.”

Six Shooter Coffee’s business took a blow at the time, but the business rebounded quickly with a temporary fix and merch sales to keep employees working. And luckily, the team was already working on its new location just down the street.

“We started building out [the new location] before the car crash,” Brown said. “We’re lucky. The neighborhood has supported us from day one, so we had the very awesome problem of outgrowing our space.”

Six Shooter originally opened its Waterloo shop in 2015, and later opened a roasting facility and cafe in Cleveland’s Tenk Building in 2017. The Tenk location closed its cafe in 2018, but the space is still used for Six Shooter’s roasting and production, Brown said.

Brown and his team started renovating Six Shooter’s new Waterloo location in July of 2019. The business officially transitioned to its new spot on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The new shop features a western-themed decor, including colorful wallpaper and Six Shooter’s logo -- a fusion of a vintage gun cylinder and a coffee mug -- on one wall. A service counter and station take up the back corner, and the rest of the space features open seating.

It’s bigger than Six Shooter’s old space, which was about 500 square feet, Brown said. But its coffee menu, which includes flavorful roasts of beans like “apple bourbon cinnamon” and “spiced pecan,” remains the same. So does the shop’s focus on local art, with a gallery wall of rotating pieces curated by Maria Neil.

One major change will come up later this year. Six Shooter Coffee will build out a kitchen and serve Tex-Mex food. Brown said food service should come to Six Shooter towards the end of 2020.

The update is a way for the coffee shop to give back to the Waterloo neighborhood, Brown said. Customers had often commented that the neighborhood didn’t have enough eateries or locations to socialize, aside from bars.

“People have supported us, and they support a lot of the businesses here,” Brown said. “We need to support the people now... and if that’s what they’re asking for, it’s time for us to step up to the plate and do that for them, because they’ve been so good to us.”

Six Shooter Coffee is open every day of the week from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. You can find more information about the business at sixshootercoffee.com.
