CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Browns senior personnel executive Ryan Grigson is serving in an advisory and consulting role for his longtime colleague Andrew Berry, and will likely be hired full-time after the NFL draft in April, a league source tells cleveland.com.

Grigson’s consulting role was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Grigson, the general manager of the Colts from 2012-16, joined the Browns in 2017. In Indianapolis, Berry worked for him for four seasons as pro scouting coordinator.

With GM John Dorsey on board, the Browns announced in January of 2018 that Grigson had been let go. In 2018, he served as Senior Football Consultant for the Seahawks.

With Grigson as GM of the Colts, the club went 49-31 (.613 winning percentage). He earned Executive of the Year honors in 2012 from the Sporting News and Pro Football Weekly after turning the Colts around from 2-14 to 11-5 and changing 70% of the roster.

Browns fans might remember Grigson for acquiring running back Trent Richardson from the Browns in 2014 for a first-round pick. Grigson’s 2014 team made it to the AFC Championship Game against the Patriots, where Grigson asked officials to check the Patriots’ footballs, which set off Deflategate. Richardson, who flopped in Indy, was a healthy scratch for that game.

In January of 2017, Grigson was fired by the Colts after Indy missed the playoffs two straight seasons. Grigson made two moves that were hailed in Indy, trading for Vontae Davis, and moving up to draft T.Y. Hilton. While Grigson was with the Browns in 2017, the Browns drafted Myles Garrett No. 1 overall, Jabrill Peppers at No. 25 and David Njoku at No. 29.
