Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont and Department of Early Childhood Commissioner Beth Bye teamed up for a mixed-doubles tennis match Saturday afternoon, facing Republicans Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano and State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria at Conard High School in West Hartford.

The Republicans won the approximately 45-minute match, 8-2, in play that involved a friendly spirit of competition.

“It’s a good thing to do,” said Lamont following the match. “We get to know each other in a very different way and I think it’s positive. A big shout out to the state employees and their generosity today.”

Fasano said that leaders of both parties believe for “a better Connecticut you’ve got to move forward and we’ll do it together.”

The match was held as part of the Connecticut State Employees Campaign for Charitable Giving’s fourth annual tennis tournament, a fundraiser in support of the campaign’s ongoing commitment for state employees and retirees to contribute to nonprofits throughout the state.
