Join Us As a Judge or Exhibitor at the 2020 Unheard Perspectives Showcase

Thu, 01/09/2020 - 11:03am

The Elementary Social Studies office, Black Student Achievement Program, and the Gifted and Talented office are proud to announce the countywide showcase will take place on Saturday, February 29th at Hammond Middle School. (Snow Date- 3/7/20). This program is for students in grades 3-5 who volunteer to learn more about an often unheard perspective of an innovator in American History.  This challenging performance-based program has students researching and delving through primary sources like letters, songs, interviews, pictures and maps as well as reading newspaper articles, biographies, and much more as they learn about our history.  Part of each project focuses on contextualizing and putting events in reference to others.  Students will showcase their knowledge through a presentation of a PowerPoint, display, or performance.

Join us as a Judge!
Judges will work together to evaluate student work using a rubric that will indicate their level of achievement. Your role will be to listen to students, ask questions, and provide feedback. You do NOT need to be an American History expert to be a great judge. It will be the students’ job to teach you. We will provide all the information you need during the training prior to the event. Please RSVP online.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

Judge Training:  8:00-8:45
Student Presentations; 9:00-11:30
Entertainment 11:40-12:00
Closing  Awards Ceremony 12:00
