About Me

Hello, my name is Alex Medina. I am currently a Senior at Cal State University, Fullerton studying Finance. I have always found Finance to be interesting ever since I was a little boy. I remember my first yard sale where I had to pay my little brother for his help and realizing that the money I made from my first sale was barely enough to cover his wage. From this point on I began to become fascinated with finance whether it was negotiating my allowance or discussing the importance of budgeting, managing, and saving with my parents. This passion for Finance early on has helped shaped me to the person I am today. I also learned from a young age working with my father the importance of having a strong work ethic in anything you do. It has allowed me to manage two jobs while attending school full-time. I believe investing not only in the markets but in oneself is key to being successful in life. When I was introduced to Value Investing by my mentor it was as if all the dots connected and I was motivated to learn all I could on what it means to be a Value Investor. I am currently an investment analyst at Titan Capital Management applying what I have learned from value investing into everything I do. I take every experience as a lesson to improve myself as an investor and a person. Once, I graduate May 2020 I aim to obtain my CFA and pursue a career in the investment field.

Relevant Experience:

Titan Capital Management:  Investment Analyst (May 2019 - Present) The program is comprised of 23 students who manage collectively over $1 million in assets thanks to generous donations from the CSUF Philanthropic Foundation. We are both fixed income and equity analysts so we are not limited to one side of the investment. We decide as a group where to invest (manage three portfolios), why to invest (reasoning and fundamentals), and how to invest (equity or fixed income) to best maximize our value.

Coursework:

  • Business Analytics I & II
  • Financial Analysis for Investors & Lenders
  • Financial Management I & II
  • Introduction to Investments

For my Financial Management II class, we were assigned an investment project. This project allowed us to perform fundamental analysis on the company to understand how the company functioned and their capital structure. We also valued the company through comparables an by performing a Discounted Cash Flow model to analyze what we believed the company's intrinsic value was and why we used the assumptions we did to come up with that intrinsic value. We also had to give our opinion on the company to see how we would change their dividend policy and if the company would benefit from additional leverage.
