SENIOR COLLEGE ESSAY WORKSHOPS

Atholton High School will be offering three-day after-school College Essay Writing Seminar/Workshops twice during the fall of 2020. Due to limited space, students may only sign up for one three-day Workshop. ATTENDANCE AT ALL THREE DAYS OF THE WORKSHOP ARE MANDATORY.

Each Seminar and Workshop includes three one-hour sessions which will feature:

I. Introduction to the college essay and overview of the purpose of the college essay, and what colleges are looking for.

II. Dos and don’ts, show not tell, and how to write a good opening paragraph.

III. Examples of good and bad essays, review of opening paragraphs, workshop.

These workshops are open to the following AHS students who are planning on applying to a four-year college/university that requires a college essay:

• Seniors currently enrolled in second semester English 12

• Seniors dual-enrolled at HCC for English 12

• Juniors who are graduating early and plan on applying for colleges this fall

The dates of the two workshops are:

• SESSION ONE [Must Enroll by 3:15pm on Monday 10/26]: Tues. 10/27, Weds. 10/28, Thurs. 10/29, 3:15pm - 4:15pm

OR

• SESSION TWO [Must Enroll by 7:15pm on Monday 11/9]: Tues. 11/10, Weds. 11/11, Thurs. 11/12, 3:15pm - 4:15pm

Enrollment will be on a first come, first served basis. There are limited (virtual) seats available.
