Māori Hymn Book - Ngā Hīmene Hunga Tapu 1928

The 1928 version of Ngā Hīmene Hunga Tapu was compiled by A. Reed Halverson, an American Latter-day Saint who served as a mission president in New Zealand in the 1920’s and again in the 1940’s.

Missionaries in New Zealand began translating hymns into Māori for use in church meetings in the early 1900s. From the beginning, choirs played an important part of worship services and nearly every branch formed a choir.

Two electronic versions of the 1928 Hymnal are available to view, download and print for non-commercial church or home use.

Printed material will not be available via Church Distribution Services.

'We hope that singing, playing and sharing these uplifting songs will bring a sweet spirit of worship, love, gratitude and peace into many hearts.'

– Elder O. Vincent Haleck
