Hero pit bull defending kids from snake dies from venom poisoning

This Florida “tail” had all the elements of a Greek tragedy — including a hero named Zeus.

A Florida family is mourning the death of their brave pit bull, Zeus — who died this week defending two kids from a venomous snake.

The Richardson brothers, Oriley and Orion, were refilling Zeus’ water bowl on Monday outside the family’s Sumter County home when the 8-month-old pooch spotted the deadly coral snake and sprung into action, according to a report.

“All of a sudden, he started attacking the snake, which was close to my son, and he was bit four times,” dad Gary Richardson told Fox 35 in Orlando.

The Richardsons rushed Zeus to a vet in Ocala, where docs pumped him with antivenom.

But Zeus couldn’t be saved, and died the next day — leaving the Richardson family heartbroken.

“It just killed us,” said mom Gina Richardson, who is using Zeus’ death to debunk pit bull critics.

“If you find [a pit bull] that’s aggressive, most likely, it’s because they weren’t treated right,” Gina said. “If you treat them right, they would give their life for you and I owe my son’s life to him.”
