MELBOURNE, Fla. – In what figures to be the first of many awards throughout her career, Nova Southeastern freshman
Valentina Albertazzi has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Just last Tuesday, Albertazzi and the top-ranked Sharks swept both the individual and team titles at the Lady Moc Classic. As a team, NSU fired a final-round score of even-par 288 to edge No. 5 Barry by one stroke, while Albertazzi herself erased a two-shot deficit over the final 18 holes to hold off the nation's No. 1 player in Tampa's Kiira Riihijarvi for her first career victory. The Sharks have now won two consecutive tournaments to open the season, and each of the past three Lady Moc Classic's overall. The Spaniard's 54-hole total of (-11) 205 marks the second lowest in program history, trailing only Taylor Collins, who carded a score of (-13) 203 through the first three rounds of the 2011 NCAA Division II Championship.
Albertazzi currently ranks as the No. 2 player in NCAA Division II.
Albertazzi and the Sharks will take a few weeks off of competition before returning to action on Mar. 9 for the start of the Peggy Kirk Bell Memorial Invitational, hosted by Rollins. For complete coverage, visit theÂ
