Sharks Rowing Announces Fall 2019 Slate

NSU will open up Oct.5 with a scrimmage at UCF

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla - Entering his sixth-year as head coach, Devin Fay and the Nova Southeastern rowing team have released its three-event fall schedule, testing the Sharks in three Florida-based events.

"This year, we are keeping it simple and staying focused on what is important to our team," Fay said. "Things like being inclusive, putting the team first, communicating between teammates, committing to a championship mindset, as well as caring and having fun."

"We talk about staying positive and trying to get incrementally better each day," Fay added. "I think if we fully commit this year we will be successful. This involves creating an atmosphere of support and accountability, trusting each other to do what's necessary to be at the top of our game."

The Sharks' fall campaign kicks off with a head-to-head scrimmage at UCF for the fifth time in the last six seasons, heading to Lake Pickett on UCF's protected-water home course on Oct. 5. The non-traditional and informal competition with the Knights will give NSU the opportunity to mix its lineups and compete against high-level competition to gauge early-season speed with their top two boats.

Exactly one week later, the Sharks will return to the Head of the Indian Creek in Miami Beach on Oct. 12. This trip marks the first return for NSU since 2017, as the team did not participate in last years regatta due to unforeseen circumstances. The meet will serve as a benchmark for the Sharks as they face off against local South Florida competition, including Sunshine State Conference member Barry.

The Sharks close out the fall in a return trip to the Hatter Invitational in DeLand, hosted by Stetson at Lake Beresford on Oct. 26. The Sharks expect to face a mix of Sunshine State and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference competition. The course allows for a longer slower opening race, followed by sprints for a challenging multi-race format, allowing for first-and second-eight teams, followed by four-groups.
