FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Starting off the 2019-20 school year with the community in mind, the Nova Southeastern athletics department came together in collaboration with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to donate over 1,770 school supplies to the students at Davie Elementary.
 
A group of 17 student-athletes traveled across campus to deliver the supplies, spending about an hour chatting and getting to know some of the students in Ms. Silvers' first grade class.
 
Here is what a couple of the NSU student-athletes had to say about their experience:
 
Valentina Albertazzi – Women's Golf
"I am so happy about this experience. It was amazing to go to Davie Elementary School and bring supply to the little kids. Seeing them so excited to see us and answering all of their questions made me realize of how much they were looking forward to meeting us. The supplies we dropped in their class got a big smile in their face and hopefully the beginning of a bright future."
 
Charissa Bacon – Women's Track & Field
"By choosing to visit Davie elementary to drop off donated school supplies, I thought we were going to be doing a charitable act and leaving a positive impact. Little did I know, those first graders would be the ones bringing a smile to my face and turning this morning into the highlight of my week. My heart is so full!"

"It was nice talking to the kids for a little while. They reminded me how great life is just by seeing their happiness over such little things. It's always great to help other people, I enjoy seeing the impact we make and you can tell they appreciate it."

"It warms my heart to see how appreciative the kids at Davie Elementary are for the little things we have the pleasure to do for them. I think such a simple act like this is what makes being an NSU athlete so fulfilling. I am confident in saying that we impacted those kids today with our visit and I hope they enjoy using the supplies for the school year!"

Visiting Davie Elementary was so much fun! The kids were so excited to see us and I loved talking with them after we dropped the supplies off. They have so many questions and I think it's awesome for them to have college students to look up to! I hope to go back soon and continue to volunteer throughout the year."
