Former NSU Men’s Golfer Santiago Gomez Recognized as GEICO Alumni of the Month

Gomez currently competes on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Former Nova Southeastern men's golfer, and 2015 Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, Santiago Gomez, has been selected as the April 2019 GEICO Alumni of the Month.

A three-year member of the Sharks' program, and a Business Management graduate, Gomez is currently a member of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica, where he ranks No. 10 on the Order of Merit.

Gomez is one of the best to ever swing a club for the Sharks. After transferring from Midwestern State following his freshman year, he made an instant impact, finishing 2013-14 ranked as the No. 3 player in NCAA Division II thanks a pair of third-place finishes at both the south/southeast super regional and the national championship. Even then, Gomez managed to improve his game as a  junior in 2014-15, when he capped the season as the No. 1 player in the nation and took home Jack Nicklaus Award, which is handed out to the top players at each level of collegiate golf. Most notable, though, was his birdie putt on the 54th hole of the 2015 national championship that clinched the title for the Sharks.

Since then, the native of Armenia, Colombia officially turned pro in 2017, and has competed in 34 career events. This this season alone, Gomez has posted a scoring average of 70.43, resulting in two Top-10 finishes including a third-place finish just last weekend in Argentina.

Gomez will look to carry the momentum into this week's Puerto Plata Open, set to be held in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic from May 2-5.
