McMahon Garners SSC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

This marks the second of McMahon's career

MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the first time this season and second of her Sharks career, junior guard Claire McMahon has garnered Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, following strong performances in last weeks Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Barry in Miami Shores.

The Illinois native led the defensive charge for NSU, having at least a block and a steal in both games this week against Daemen and No. 10 Alaska Anchorage, while pulling down a combined 19 rebounds. McMahon had a season-high two steals in the victory against Daemen and has now recorded a block in three straight outings.

Through seven games, McMahon leads the Sharks in rebounding averaging over seven boards a game, while also contributing 11 points per game on the offensive end. McMahon currently has the third highest defensive rebounds per game average in the Sunshine State Conference at six per game.

McMahon and the Sharks are back in action Saturday, Dec. 7 as NSU travels to Saint Leo, Fla., to take on the Lions in the second SSC matchup this season. To view all the SSC Men's and Women's Basketball weekly awards click HERE
