Heikkila Anointed All-American by D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches

Postseason awards continue to roll in for four NSU women’s soccer players

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A week removed from helping the program capture its first-ever NCAA South Region title, four Nova Southeastern women's soccer players have continued to reel in more hardware.

Becoming just the third player to do so this decade, and first since 2017, Emma Heikkila was named an All-American by both the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and United Soccer Coaches. United Soccer Coaches additionally recognized the midfielder, along with Paige Napolitano, as a First Team All-South Region selection, while USC also placed Hannah Christophe and Gaby Moreira on the region's second team.

Already an Academic All-American off the field, Heikkila collects the first on-field All-America honors of her illustrious career after tallying 14 goals, including four alone in the NCAA Tournament, to go with a team-high seven assists. During the season, the senior rattled off a seven-game goal streak - the first such streak by an NSU player since 2006 – en route to finishing ranked among the Top-3 in the Sunshine State Conference in all major offensive categories. Heikkila closes her career tied for second in program history with 34 career goals.

One of three team captains in 2019, Napolitano was a massive piece for NSU this fall. The team's leader in minutes played (1,883), Napolitano concluded the year as the only Shark to start in all 23 matches. The center back's efforts guided the Sharks to a program-record 14 shutouts, with their 0.61 goals-against average among the nation's leaders. The First Team All-South Region honor marks the second this season for Napolitano.

Christophe caused all sorts of fits for opposing defenses in 2019, leading the Sharks with a team-high 15 goals while adding five assists. Forming a dangerous 1-2 punch alongside Heikkila up top, the senior ranked among the SSC's Top-2 in both goals and points. Earlier this season, Christophe set the program's single-game goals record with five against Florida Memorial. She then later notched the game-winner in the Sharks' NCAA Tournament opening-round matchup with Montevallo, helping her climb into fourth all-time in NSU history with 32 career tallies.

Moving over from Lynn for her final collegiate season, Moreira proved to be an enormous addition for head coach John Constable and the Sharks. The Miramar, Fla. native held down the left back position, earning 21 starts in 22 appearances. Moreira also chipped in offensively, providing NSU with four goals, none larger than her game-winner versus Embry-Riddle to send the Sharks to the Elite Eight. This marks her third career All-South Region accolade.

NSU wrapped up the 2019 campaign with a final record of 17-4-2. To stay up-to-date with the Sharks throughout the offseason, follow them on Twitter @NSU_WSoccer.
