Heikkila Hauls in Academic All-District Honor for Second Straight Year

NSU standout owns a 3.85 GPA in Finance

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, Nova Southeastern midfielder Emma Heikkila has been selected as a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, announced on Thursday.

The 2019 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To even be nominated, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, must have completed at least one full calendar year at their current institution, and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

As a senior captain, Heikkila has helped guide the Sharks to within one win of a Sunshine State Conference regular season championship. The native of Tornio, Finland currently ranks among the Top-5 in the league in goals (8), assists (7) and points (23), tallying at least one point in 11 of NSU's 16 matches. Earlier this fall, she became the first NSU player since 2006 to score in seven straight games, while taking home back-to-back SSC Offensive Player of the Week awards in the process. Throughout her NSU career, Heikkila has posted a 3.85 GPA in Finance.

Heikkila will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
