Boone, Ford Earn Volleyball All-SSC Honors

Ford named to All-SSC Second Team and Newcomer Team, Boone to All-SSC Newcomer Team

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced its volleyball postseason accolades on Tuesday and a pair of Sharks were among those honored as Ally Ford was named to the All-SSC Second Team and Newcomer Team while Alex Boone earned a spot on the All-SSC Newcomer Team, as well.

"With 12 new Sharks this fall, Ally and Alex were actually our final commitments coming into the season, and I could not imagine this family without them," exuded head coach Brian Rosen. "They are obviously incredible volleyball players, but they bring so much to our culture off the court as well. They helped us set records and new standards for this program, and I am so excited to see what we can all accomplish this spring and next year."

Ford, a junior from Leesburg, Va., led the Shark offense this season, tallying a team-high 324 kills and averaging 3.38 kills per set, ranking her fifth in the conference. Additionally, she led not only the team but the entire league with her 44 aces (0.46 per set). Over the course of the season, she picked up 211 digs, recorded 47 blocks and made 16 assists.

"Ally just goes after it, and inspires her teammates to do the same," described Rosen. "No matter the situation or score, I know Ally is going to swing away or serve as hard as she can. She has the only topspin serve in the conference, and it is deadly. It is something that every one of our opponents has had to game plan for. As an attacker, she was the point leader for us all season. I have been so impressed with her ability to grow as a passer and defender all season. Ally is also a positive voice in the locker room and influential leader for our program."

Boone was a force to reckon with in the middle, both offensively and defensively. Her .396 hitting percentage topped all players in the Sunshine State Conference, as she finished with 249 kills in total with just 48 errors in 508 attempts. Her hitting percentage also ranks her seventh in the country. Up at the net, Boone put up 99 blocks, including 11 solo, averaging .93 per set. The Burnsville, N.C. native ended her junior season on a high note, earning the final SSC Offensive Player of the Week award for her first-career honor.

"Alex brings energy, fire, and competitive passion," boasted Rosen. "When the match is on the line, I know Alex is going to get fired up, flare her nostrils, and do everything she can to bounce a ball on the other side of the net. Alex was absolutely one of the best offensive middles in the conference this season, as shown by her SSC leading hitting percentage. She not only scored a ton of points for our team this year; she also opened up seams for our pins to score as well."

Eighteen student-athletes were recognized across three teams as All-Sunshine State Conference for the 2019 season, as voted on by the league's volleyball coaches. Katie McKiel from the University of Tampa takes Player of the Year honors, Sam Wolf of Palm Beach Atlantic wins Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year accolades, while Lynn's Adam Milewski is honored as the SSC Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches.
