MELBOURNE, Fla. – After aiding the Nova Southeastern volleyball team to a 2-0 week that extended its win streak to six matches,
Alex Boone has been awarded the title of Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
A junior middle blocker from Burnsville, N.C., Boone notches her first Offensive Player of the Week in collecting 12 kills on .480 hitting with zero errors in a three-set win at Embry-Riddle. In the season finale at Florida Tech, she had 10 kills in just three sets, hitting .444 with only two errors. On the weekend, she hit .465 and averaged 3.67 kills and 1.33 blocks per set. Capping off the year with the offensive play of Boone, the Sharks finish the 2019 regular-season 20 wins for the first time since 2008.
"I am so happy that Alex has finally been recognized for what we've seen all year," head coach
Brian Rosen. "Her hitting percentage and offensive production this weekend was on another level, and why we were able to sweep two tough opponents. Her offense not only helps our team win matches, but also creates great scoring opportunities for our pin hitters. She finished the regular season with the highest hitting percentage in the conference and 16th-best in the country!"
The Sharks closed the regular season at 20-11, 12-8 in SSC play. The 2019 NCAA DII women's volleyball selection show will air at 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday on NCAA.com.
