FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After helping the Nova Southeastern volleyball team to a 2-1 week, including huge wins over Saint Leo and the defending national champions Tampa,
Brittany Landrum has been awarded the title of Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the Sunshine State Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Over the course of the week, Landrum totaled 17 blocks, averaging 1.42 per set, while recording 14 kills, 11 digs, and one service ace. In a 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-13) win over Saint Leo, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the South Region, the freshman middle put up eight blocks. In another 3-1 win (14-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-22) over No. 25 Tampa, the Saint Cloud, Fla. native tallied seven blocks, including one solo, while adding six kills. In the two wins, she averaged 1.88 blocks per set.
"As a freshman, Brittany already has an incredible ability to read offense and be a force at the net," boasted head coach
Brian Rosen. "Brittany's blocking was one of the biggest reasons we were able to defeat two of the top offensive teams in the country in Saint Leo and Tampa. She put several All-American candidates into negative hitting percentages because she was able to shut down the seam almost every time. She made a physical or mental impact on every swing our opponents took this week."
The Sharks will host their final home games of the season this upcoming weekend, starting with Eckerd College on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.
