Friends,
During Black History Month, we celebrate the resilience and strength of our African-American brothers and sisters - those who came before, and those who are still with us, all engaged in the struggle for justice and equality. In recognition of this important occasion, I want to invite you to two events taking place here at Brooklyn Borough Hall this month.
In partnership with HBCU Night,
we are hosting The Power of HBCU Seats, an event inviting high school students, their parents, and chaperones to have a conversation about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Join us from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM on Monday, February 10th. and get more information that can help in making an informed post-secondary education decision.
On the 26th, we will host our annual Black History Month event, the theme of which is "Black History's Next Chapter." The event, co-sponsored by MetroPlus, JPMorgan Chase, and NYC & Company Foundation, will feature a keynote speech from Asha Boston, founder and president of The Dinner Table, a non-profit that
provides college and career readiness workshops and programming for middle school and high school aged women of color, as well as incoming college freshmen.
I hope you will join us for these events as we celebrate Black History Month.
-Eric
