JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri House of Representatives is preparing for their 2020 legislative session.

A newly proposed law would require every Missouri public school to display the national motto "In God We Trust" in a "prominent location."

The bill, if passed, would go into effect as soon as the fall semester of the 2020-2021 school year, making Missouri the eighth state in the country with the same requirement.

House Bill 1294 is sponsored by Representative Chris Dinkins, a Republican and former public school teacher from the Ozarks region of the state. It was prefiled in early December.
