Feels like we are coming out of the bad patch now and can start thinking about next season with Raul back and some new players

7 points out of the last 9, turned the corner. Just had to show a little faith in Nuno, like we all said recently he would turn it around eventually. Neto is an absolute Diamond! Still only 20 so think he will stay with us for a bit longer.

So, assuming Raul is back to his old best by next season, where do we need to strengthen and offload players?

Was discussing this last night with some Wolves fans in the UK. The thoughts were:

Ait-Nouri, Vitinha, MGW (although I suggest we should just loan him for a few more seasons - at this age Kane was playing for Milwall/Lleyton Orient...). Also an argument could be made for getting rid of Neves, Moutinho (will he retire?) and maybe even Coady... We need back-up for Raul and Jose doesn't seem to be the person - and Silva needs a few years in a Championship team I reckon.

And how bad was Neves in the first half??? For a defensive midfielder, he doesn't defend very well... Southampton knew that he would go in on the ball every time, they would get round him and have an overlap in attack. When he wasn't defending poorly he was passing to no one or to Southampton... Thank god he got better in the second half. Did anyone see the stat on the BBC feed that in his time in the premiership, Neves has had 15 touches inside the opposition box and 5 of these touches were penalties. That just isn't good enough for a midfielder IMHO.

Don't get me wrong - all up I think we played really well in the second half and deserved the win. But the fact we started with our "strongest" team and played the worst 45 minutes of football in the season says a lot too. And the good news is there are fewer points between us and Europe than there are between us and demotion! In fact, if we win our next 3 games and Chelsea, West Ham, Everton, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Arsenal and Leeds all lose their next 3 games AND we score 18 goals, we are sitting pretty for Europe!

We need to replace Moutinho, a Bruno Fernandes type Player would be perfect! Need to score more goals from midfield. A new centre back or right back, much as I like Boly his distribution is awful and costs us possession frequently. A new Striker obviously. I think Silva will come good next season after a good pre-season and naturally maturing.

Maybe a couple more nuggets for the future like we did with Neto a couple of seasons ago.

Agree with all of that Tim, except the Happy Clapper IF... at the end.
When Neves came, wasn't he more attacking? Or did he just score a couple of wonder goals that made it look so? Having two defensive mids on top of a back three is nuts, and it's no wonder we don't score enough goals.

Need Adama to play well again so we can cash in on him

Shame we let Pedro Goncalves slip through the net. He's scoring a goal a game for Sporting Lisbon now from midfield

Absolutely agree with you Tim. I’ve been saying it for a long time, as many have other fans back home that Neves isn’t the player that wonderful Derby goal suggests. He even admitted on his interview that he was crap first half, and to be honest he’s played like that all season. We need a more attacking play maker and I think Moutinho will finish with us after this season cos of his age. A very good post 👌

I wonder if Moutinho has management aspirations. Be nice to make him part of the team and a potential successor to Nuno.

100% agree Steve, Moutinho is a winner! He seems to love us as well. Then again he probably has a place overlooking the beach on the Algarve as a retirement option.
