long sleeves/pants suggested
clean clothes for drive home (at least dry shirt is nice)

We will provide hard hats, safety glasses, tools, training and support

Reminder: If you have asthma, or are allergic to insect stings, bring your inhaler/epipen.  All of these locations are too far off the road to depend on 911 in either of these scenarios.

Saturday 5/12: BROT Rock work and step building near Hemlock Overlook  - description and location
Project: We will be leveling the trail in a rocky area, moving rocks, setting stepping stones, building a few steps, digging some side hill.

When: 8:45

Where: Hemlock Fire Rd Trail Head (Hemlock Overlook Regional Park)

Parking on the right at the end of the road just past Paradise Springs Winery.
At entry to Adventure Links camp.

Details:

·         We will have a safety talk before heading out to the work site.

·         The work site is about a ¾  mile walk from the parking area.

·         We generally work from 9 to 3, with a break for lunch. Leave parking by 4pm.

·         There are NO rest rooms at the parking area or the work area. If you are not comfortable peeing in the woods, not a good trip for you

 

To Bring:

·         Water 3-4 liters. More if hot weather forcasted.

·          Snacks, lunch,  bug spray, sun screen, work clothes, work gloves.

·         Work or hiking boots. Sneakers or trail running shoes are not appropriate for trail work.

·         Rain gear if forecast calls for rain.

·         Any medications that might be needed - inhaler, epi pen, etc.

·         It is tick season, make sure to bring DEET or pre treat clothing with permethrin!!

I Provide

·          Tools, glasses, hard hats.

·         Wearing hard hats and safety glasses is required.

Saturday 5/19: BROT Completion of Trail Relocation - description and location
Project:  Complete a new section of trail to bi-pass a steep eroded section of trail. When the new trail is complete, we will obliterate the old trail. This is mostly digging and clearing.

When: 8:45 am

Where: Meet Bull Run Marina Parking Area
Rt 612.

Sunday 5/20: AWT - Trail Maintenance Workshop at Ambassador Whitehouse Trail: description - space is limited
Space is limited - once you've signed up, we will contact you with additional info closer to the date.

Learn about routine trail maintenance (or sharpen your skills): safety, clipping, blazing, water bar cleaning for effective water management.

Meet: 8:45 am at the access road on route 50 (see below)

Written directions to access road:

- The entry dirt road to the trail head is on route 50, just to the west of building at 374 John Mosby Highway, west of Paris, VA.

- As you travel west on Rt 50 over Ashby gap, immediately after the crest of the hill is a connector across the median strip.

- Turn left on that connector, go straight across the eastbound lanes of Rt 50 to the gravel entry road.

- Note: We are not meeting at the AT parking lot a little west of Ashby Gap, we are meeting at an unmarked gravel road.
