During this session, Jason will share the importance of understanding  the nuances of different service definitions and how each were used together to provide the supports Derek needed to thrive at work. By enlisting help from his supervisor and peers Jason was able to navigate a complex system of supports and engage in clear communication with Derek's supporters to maintain focus and find success.

Presentations are 20 minutes and are followed by 10 minutes of Q&A

About the Series:

Over the course of 3 months, 6 effective case managers from SELN member states have shared innovative approaches they used to help 6 individuals move forward along their employment pathway.

A full-time job in the community is not the only way to define employment success for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Instead, success is a series of accomplishments. It is overcoming a challenge and challenges that follow. Guided conversations between case managers and individuals often reveal obstacles, and give them a place to brainstorm solutions and develop opportunities.

Recordings for each session are available at www.selnhub.org/shorts

SELN is a joint program of the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services and the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
