My Students

My students are generally, highly-motivated and very often musically talented. Many of them are deeply interested in music. Some have outside experiences in performing music. Some have never played an instrument before but do well in the music classroom.

Many of my students love to sing.

They participate in a school chorus that performs during winter and a spring concert. Some of the younger students participate in a grade-wide musical review. They connect to the community, by performing for their families, students, and staff.

My Project

My project will help students improve their music literacy skills by learning to play a new instrument, in as much as they have already learned to play soprano recorders. The ukulele is a good instrument for students to play because it is highly portable, reasonably priced and easy to learn.

Students love to perform for their peers and their school community!

Learning to play the ukulele gives them a wonderful opportunity to perform! The Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Students at P.S. 188Q participate annually in a spring concert. Singing to the accompaniment of soprano ukuleles would be an added attraction and a welcome change to the enthusiastic performances of our students!
