TEAM 74 Community Conversation: The Hate U Give
The M.S. 74 Equity Team would like to invite all interested students, staff, and family members to join us for our a virtual community conversation on Thursday, August 20. Given the increased awareness around issues of social justice and systemic racism that have come to light over the past few months, we want to make sure there is a space for the entire community to come together to share their perspectives.

We're planning to ground this conversation via a shared text and host it like a "book club." Our discussion will be based around the young adult novel The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. There is also a movie adaptation, which came out in 2018. The book is available for free via the NYC Department of Education's Sora app, and the movie is available for rent for $3.99 via Amazon Prime. As of now, it's also available on HBO for anyone with a subscription. We request that you read the book and/or watch the movie if you'd like to join our conversation. During our discussion, we'll touch on events from the story as well as how they connect to our lives and to our school community. Please be aware that the book and movie (rated PG-13) contain mature themes, language, and content.

Please complete the following form if you are interested in joining this Community Conversation, which will take place via videoconference on Thursday, August 20 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. We'll share an invitation and information about joining the week prior to the meeting itself.

Thank you!
