About Presidio IPM

The Presidio Trust Natural Resources department is a thought-leader within the ecological community.  The staff diligently manages native plant communities and wildlife, conducts natural resources research and monitoring, and continually challenges conventional thinking to create innovative solutions which improve the Park’s ecological health. In 2018, we planted over 20,000 seedlings, removed over 6,000 32-gallon bags of invasive species, and hosted over 9,000 volunteer hours restoring natural areas.

The Presidio Trust IPM team ensures that pest management in Presidio landscapes and buildings is done effectively to maintain a healthy ecosystem and protect park visitors, residents, wildlife, water, and other natural resources. We work closely with and share ideas with other innovative leaders in ecology, and engage our local communities in community science, ecosystem restoration, and the management of biodiversity within the park. In 2019, the IPM team worked to evaluate two organic herbicides to control weeds, facilitated the use of 80 goats for vegetation management, and worked with over 30 commercial nurseries to identify those using Best Management Practices to prevent plant disease.
