Description:

Experience the value and joy of furthering your MI skills in a virtual Community of Practice context. This Learning Community will meet for five weekly 75-minute sessions with a format that will include a brief centering practice, description and/or review of between session work, active practice with a new exercise or topic, smaller breakout groups to further refine skills and receive/offer guidance, and an opportunity to debrief and assign upcoming between session activities.

Planned topics include:

  • Effectively cultivating change talk
  • Strategies for softening sustain talk
  • Navigating within and between the four processes
  • Discord and conversation repair
  • Forming/continuing a community of practice or learning community

A solid understanding of MI fundamentals will allow you to get the most value from this intensive course. We recommend that you have completed a high quality introductory MI course within the past year.

Meet the Faculty:

Ali Hall (JD) is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and an independent consultant and trainer. Ali has designed and facilitated more than 2,500 Motivational Interviewing workshops for health care practitioners, behavioral health clinicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, and criminal/juvenile justice professionals, and provides training for trainers in evidence-based practices. Ali offers MI coding and skill development coaching, and provides consultation to systems for effective MI implementation.

Ken Kraybill (MSW) has worked in healthcare, behavioral health, homelessness and housing for the past 35+ years. He is a Senior Trainer for C4 Innovations, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of care provided to marginalized and vulnerable people. Ken has 18 years of experience working as a behavioral health practitioner in homeless services. For the past two decades, he has been developing curricula and facilitating in-person and online training nationally on topics including motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, supervision, strengths-based case management, critical time intervention, and resiliency and renewal for care providers. He is a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).

Training Certificates

Certificates of Completion are awarded to participants who have attended the all five, live webcasts (or watched the webcast recording in their entirety), completed all required learning activities, scored higher than 80% on each weekly quiz, completed the course evaluation form, and the certificate request form. 6 hours of continuing education credit will be awarded upon completion of this course through ASWB and NAADAC. 6 hours of continuing education credit will be awarded upon completion of this course through NBCC. Certificates will be emailed directly to participants roughly two weeks after the completion of the final webcast.
