Edge of Retribution is book one in the Edge series by Jacob Chance. This is a romantic suspense that had me completely riveted by the end of the first chapter. What a way to start things off!

When we first meet Zoe Thomas she is eighteen years old and has just graduated from high school. She’s a happy teenager whose life is about to drastically change.

Nash Garrison is an FBI agent, ten years older than Zoe. Nash and Zoe’s lives are thrown together in the most stressful of ways. The more time they spend together, the stronger the bond is that forms between them. It’s an attraction Nash has never felt for another woman. But it’s also one he’s determined not to act on. No matter how mature Zoe is, she’s still only eighteen and also very vulnerable. Which means hands off.

“What is it about her that draws me in and has me wanting to get to know her more.”

Six years later, Zoe is all grown up and has the job she’s dreamed of having her entire life. She has one goal, to get revenge against the man who ruined her life six years ago. She hasn’t seen Nash in six years but now he is suddenly back in her life. It’s immediately evident that the feelings she had for him six years ago are still there, strong as ever. But she needs to focus on her new job, and on her most important goal.

“Retribution will be mine. An urge for vengeance fills me to my very marrow, and sometimes it’s all that motivates me to keep moving from one day to the next.”

Nash let Zoe go six years ago because he thought it was the right thing to do at the time. But now she’s back in his life and she isn’t a teenager any more. He let her go once but he’s not letting her go again.

“I want to be yours. I’ve been waiting forever to be yours.”

I loved this book! Nash was everything I love in a hero, all alpha and tough but soft on the inside. I loved how he was with Zoe, both when she was younger, and in the present. He got all the swoons. This book has everything I love, a swoony hero, a kick butt heroine, absolutely amazing secondary characters, suspense that had me on the very edge of my seat, and also some sweet and some super steamy scenes. Add it all together and you’ve got a winner.

I’m so excited because Jacob is adding a duet to this series, Edge of Honor and Edge of Forever. The details will be released soon but after reading this book, I couldn’t be more excited.

★ 3.5 stars!!! ★

A romantic suspenseful read that didn’t manage to excite me as much as the On The Edge duet by the same author.
The premise had a lot of potential, yet it was fairly good in development, plot and characters. I wanted more depth, intrigue and emotions. The relationship between Nash and Zoe felt flat and didn’t convince me.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

The Edge of Retribution was a fast and kind of intense read. The way the book starts with Zoe's situation and the horrible events, is certainly a page turner and makes you want to know the story.

Zoe is a strong and determined main character and I liked watching her develop. Nash is an interesting one, but a little intense a little too fast in some parts for me.

The last quarter of the story really ramps up and has some things thrown out at the reader which you won't necessarily see coming.

There were also some great secondary characters in this one.

Easy to read, and also a fast read.

Reviewed on behalf of Endlessly Reading book blog.

This is not the kind of story we are used to seeing from Jacob Chance. It really shows his versatility as a writer. It is gritty, edgy, and peppered with heart-pounding action. I have been eagerly awaiting this book ever since it was announced, and I was not disappointed. From the very first chapter, I was immersed in the action.

Zoe Thomas is only 18 when her parents are murdered. Under the protection of the FBI, Zoe meets Nash Garrison, an agent assigned to her security detail. With the close quarters and long hours alone together, the two form a friendship that soon becomes attraction. But Nash’s honorable and protective nature will not allow him to take advantage of Zoe’s youth and vulnerability, not to mention she is currently a part of his job.

Six years later, Zoe is now an FBI agent herself, determined to find the man who killed her parents. The hand of fate reunites Zoe and Nash, and their feelings for each other have not faded over time. Will their age difference remain a barrier between them? Will outside forces keep them apart forever? Or will the fight for retribution bring them closer than ever?

I highly recommend this fast-paced, thrill ride of a read.

I loved this story. Edge Of Retribution really shows Jacob Chance versatility as a writer. It is full of grit, edge of your seat suspense and heart-pounding action. It is evident that Jacob can write multiple genres and write them ever so well. This was intriguing and fast paced. There were moments of heartbreak and moments of suspense and my heart was pounding the entire time. I was pulled in from page one and could not put this book down.

The storyline is (as ever) extremely well written with two main characters that are strong, well-developed with a sizzling chemistry that will draw you into their world from the outset. Not to mention, the phenomenal supporting secondary characters who all have the potential of having their own stories. This story is so unbelievably action packed and an absolute thrill ride full of many twists and turns that will keep you guessing and on your toes all the way until the very end of the last page.

This Book Is a Must Read

I first read Jacob Chance in July 2016 with his Debut book Quake. I have followed his work since that point and love each time he releases a new book. His writing with each book just keeps getting better and better and his characters and Storylines and so enjoyable and quite often entertaining.

Edge Of Retribution is Brilliant, it is a glimpse into a different side of Jacob Chance’s writing and not what you would traditionally expect. Having said that though I can’t wait to read more Suspense from him, he can quite easily slip between Hey the 2 genres and give you Sports Rom Coms that will have you in hysterics and at the same time deliver an Action Packed Suspense that will have you addicted. That’s exactly what EOR is, it will have you gripping every page to get more, it will quite often have you on the edge of your seat and heart in your throat.

The Book follows the story of Nash Garrison (Wait did I mention Jacob knows how to make you fall for his leading men? No, well he nails it every time.) Nash is an FBI agent assigned to Serve & Protect his latest case Zoe Thomas (Who just happens to be a very headstrong and determined teenager and Daughter of 2 well respected FBI agents) the angst and the fight this book has, has kept me riveted until the last page , I loved the storyline, the leads and sub characters and I LOVED the twists.

I’m not going into detail of the story other than to say this, it is absolutely not what you would expect, it is Suspense at its absolute damn finest. It was addictive to the point that when I had to stop reading for work I couldn’t stop thinking about it. There were parts I didn’t see coming until they hit me in the face and I remember thinking #NailedIt.
I cannot recommend this book enough, you will devour it.

Since the day Zoe Thomas watched her parents be murdered, her life was no longer her own. Continually on the move from one safe house to another, the only refuge she felt safe was when Nash Garrison was by her side. Sent by the FBI to protect her at all costs, he was her hero and that should have been the extent of it.

Ten years her senior Nash knew it was wrong to feel anything for the girl who recently lost her parents and basically her entire life. Once she testifies against the men who murdered her parents she will have her entire life ahead of her. Whatever spark they seem to have will pass and Nash won't jeopardize his career over a fleeting spark.

Six years go by and Zoe makes it into the FBI, just like she's always dreamed. Her one goal to track down the man who changed her life forever. She doesn't count on see Nash again, older, but still the same man who haunts her dreams and changed her life forever. Can she have both dreams, track a killer and have a lover?

Zoe is older and now Nash is ready to claim her as his own. He's never forgotten about her after all this time and he's proud she's come so far at achieving her dreams. His only fear is that she doesn't want him in those dreams.

Edge of Retribution is told in dueling POV and takes place in two parts six years apart. The first part is raw and heartbreaking. The writing even has a raw brokenness to it. Where as in the second part, where both characters have matured, you get the sense they are better equipped to handle meeting this time around and the writing portrays that sense of stability.

Jacob Chance stepped out of his typical genre and wrote a good suspense/action novel that will keep you on your toes.

Right from the start of this story,I was hooked!
18 year old Zoe,the daughter of two FBI Agents,is witness to her parents murder, manages to escape before facing the same fate, and as a result is put into a safe house, with agents protecting her until the trial where she is to testify. One of the Agents is Nash Garrison,10 years her senior,as the days in each other's company go on,a mutual attraction is there, with lines getting slightly blurred yet not going too far...Fast forward to 6 years later, with Zoe (24) having joined the FBI ,which was her dream even before losing her parents, and a focus on bringing down the one responsible for her parents death is her ultimate goal.
She comes into contact with Nash again, and even with keeping the professional image, those feelings from years ago is still there on both sides.
Now I won't go into anymore detail as to all that happens, but this is more than a simple second chance romance story...there are other elements which add some suspense, action packed ride, especially towards the end,and a few twists added along with a OMG I DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING! moment.

Jacob has created yet another well written, with great attention to detail, telling in DUAL POV story, that as I said to start with got me hooked from the beginning...I LOVED IT!

I must say there is nothing quite like a Jacob Chance suspenseful romance. Especially curled up on the couch with your feet up. Ok That last part May of just been a personally preference but it’s my way of saying I’ve read a great book. One you can easily get lost in and Edge of Retribution is just such a book. It will keep you engrossed in the storyline and hoping for a happy ending as you turn the pages.

The author has given us a plot that easily flows as it takes you on Zoe and Nash’s journey. Nash is an FBI agent who comes into Zoe’s life when she is a lost, vulnerable 18 year old. Nash is part of Zoe’s protection detail and is there for her every step of the way as her world comes crashing down around her. Then after being forced apart due to one horrendous night, they are reunited six years later. A lot can change during a span of 6 years, but some things just seem timeless. Has fate brought Nash and Zoe back together for a chance at a normal life or is it the intricate workings of a killer looking for vengeance that has caused their paths to intersect once again?

2 Thumbs Up for a well written storyline with characters that will touch your heart and feel like family. This is a suspenseful romance that I highly recommend grabbing. You won’t regret it as the author carries you on a wild journey you won’t soon forget.

Zoe is a strong woman who had to grow up fast after witnessing her parents, undercover FBI agents, being murdered by the hands of one of the Popov Russian crime organization goons. She is now being protected by FBI agents, one of which she feels instant chemistry to, until the trial.

Nash is a alpha FBI agent that will do anything to protect Zoe. Even if it costs him his life. Six years ago he walked away from Zoe so she could move on with her life. An older man and a young woman. Now they both work together as agents. The chemistry between these two is explosive.

Zoe is determined to get retribution for the death of her parents.

As evil lurks in the shadows, the unexpected happens. Betrayal?

Jacob Chance sends us on an intense, emotional journey as he spins an intricate web of mystery, suspense, betrayal and second chances in this action packed thriller with just the right blend of romance and humour. Twist and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat.  He has proven himself to be a multi-talented author writing fabulous stories of different type of genres.

Wow. This is something completely different to anything I've ever read by Jacob Chance. I was on the egde of my seat eagerly waiting to see what was going to happen next. Once I started I wasn't able to put this book down until I had devoured it.
Zoe is one of the strongest, badass female characters I've ever had the pleasure of reading. With the things that she had witnessed it would of been easy for her to become a weak shell of a person, but Jacob made her so strong, I guess you could say an inspiration or even a role model.
Nash, holy hell Nash. He's intense and all male. So strong and dominant yet loving and caring all the same. His character was the perfect match for Zoe. From the moment they met you could tell the sparks were going to fly when they finally got together.
I don't want to say much about the story, I think it's best if you just go in with knowing very little and just let the story unfold in front of you.
There was a few hidden surprises in there that had me speechless and hitting my kindle to turn the pages faster. I can't recommend this book enough.

WOW! My favorite release by this author to date! Edge of Retribution did not disappoint!

Edge of you seat!
Page-turner!
Pulse-pounding action!

I loved this story.
Daughter of two FBI agents, Zoe is only eighteen, but mature beyond her years. That will serve her well after tragedy strikes.

Nash is also part of the FBI, tasked with helping to keep Zoe safe. Lines blur between protector and the protected.

This story was action-packed from start to finish. Lots of surprises I never saw coming. You will get sucked in from the very first page. I could not read fast enough to find out what was going to happen next.

Zoe was driven and determined. Nothing was ever going to stop her from her retribution. Nash was an alpha with a need to keep Zoe safe, not matter the cost. Their chemistry was palpable and so very HOT! I enjoyed every moment of this story. Get ready for an action-packed thrill ride!

I know I say it every time Jacob publishes a new book, “this is my favorite book of his”. But this, hands down, is my favorite book and his best writing to date. It is an action-packed romance that keeps you at the edge of your seat and has you anticipating whats to come on the next page. If you like strong minded heroines that fight for what they want and swoon worthy heroes that protect fiercely and love even harder, then this is a book you need to ONE CLICK! In addition to loving Zoe and Nash’s individual personalities, their chemistry and the emotional connection was beautiful. Jacob’s knowledge and attention to detail made me feel as though a movie was playing through in my head. I became completely enthralled in this book and I could not put it down. If you like thrill mixed with some steamy romance, this is the book for you and one that you will not forget!

What an amazing story by Jacob Chance, one of his best yet. He has really developed wonderfully as a writer and has not yet disappointed me with his creative mind. Mr. Chance has stepped out of the box and out of his norm on what he normally writes and created a brilliant, sit on the edge of your seat Romantic Thriller. He has really proven his versatility as a writer with Edge of Retribution. The storyline is very well written with strong, well-developed characters with a sizzling chemistry that will pull you into their world from page one. This is one action packed thrill ride full of many twists and turns that will keep you guessing all the way until the very end. I highly recommend a 1-click purchase as you will not be disappointed, but then again Jacob Chance never fails to deliver amazing stories that everyone will love.

Ok, where do I start? I absolutely loved this book! My only complaint is that it was over too soon. Zoe and Nash were perfect for each other. Both were strong, fierce and bad*ss. Yeah, I would totally want Zoe covering my back. Any time!

From the very beginning, this book is action packed and intense. With our giving too much away, Zoe has been through hell and my heart broke for her. But it wasn't long before I knew she was going to be alright. She was a strong character, strong and courageous. When Zoe sets her mind on something, there is absolutely no stopping her. I truly love Jacob Chance's heroines but Zoe is my favorite.

Nash, was different from what I expected. Not complaining, just making an observation. I assumed he was going to be arrogant and closed off. Most men in his profession have tough skin and even tougher attitudes. But I found Nash to be sweet and caring from the very beginning in addition to being an FBI agent and the stigma that comes with it.

Another aspect I loved was being kept at the edge of my seat. I was anticipating something bad happening because, well, this is a suspense. The angst was perfect and the climax was amazing. And there were definitely unpredictable moments. Gosh, this is hard to review without spoilers, lol. Anyway, I have been a fan of this author for a while. He amazes me with how talented he is writing the different genres of romance, not only sticking with one. As always, I am looking forward to Jacob's next release. Definitely a #oneclick author for me.

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Zoe Thomas is not the average eighteen-year-old girl one would expect as she’s been through more than most. The daughter of two FBI agents who are brutally murdered finds herself under the protection of the FBI. One of the agents who has been assigned to her is Nash Garrison and is older in years than her. A bond being around each other twenty-four seven is formed. Their attraction grows, but Nash can't cross the line; after all, it's his job to protect Zoe and not take advantage of her youth and vulnerability.

“There can't be anything between us, Zoe. It's never going to happen, and you need to let this schoolgirl - older man fantasy go. Do you hear me?”

Fast forward six years and Zoe has now begun her dream job in the FBI. When she bumps into Nash, all her old feelings come flowing back, and she realises that she is still hopelessly in love with him. Nonetheless, Zoe doesn't want any distractions as her primary focus is bringing down the man that was behind the brutal murder of her parents and finally get retribution.

“Hi, I'm  with the Girl Scouts would you like to buy some cookies?”
“Zoe? Wait.. that was you?”

Right from the very first page to the end I was treated to a full of thrills and spills story. It's entails angst, suspense and romance with a touch of humour. Very cleverly written, it makes you think you know where it's going only to be thrown right off the scent. Told from a dual point of view was a welcome attribute to get inside their minds and read their thoughts, too. Zoe is a sassy, strong-willed heroine and in her time of adversity, she never lets it get her down, making her a truly likable character. Nash is a protective alpha male but also has this way about him that makes him swoon-worthy. He has a constant need to keep Zoe safe.

This romantic suspense novel was so action-packed it made my head spin. I was desperate to know the who, what and why. It never left my thoughts and was relieved to have had an extended weekend to devour and discover where I was being led to. Apart from the good guys, we have a share of baddies. All characters lead and secondary were a real joy to read. The author has once again shown his versatility in his works, and I loved everything about Edge of Retribution. Seeing as the plot and characters are on point and the intense steamy scenes fitted perfectly into the two protagonists’ tale, I couldn’t recommend readers one-clicking this rollercoaster of a ride more. Its five stars are well-deserved and if I could given this book more, I would have.

Edge of pure adrenaline

Hold your breath. Retribution is coming and it’s going to leave you breathless.

Because Jacob Chance has done it. Yes, he’s exceed all expectations with Edge of Retribution... but he also made this book, one of his best work to date. I didn’t think anything could surpass Delude in my heart but Jacob has proved me wrong.

From the beginning, he truly captures every bit of your attention, raises the adrenaline right from chapter one. Yep, chapter ONE. You’re ALL in and you get on the train, not carrying one bit where he’s taking you, simply because you can’t jump out. Because you don’t want to get off the train.

And at midway ‘till the end , he has you sitting on the Edge on your chair, ready to crash if its where he’s taking you.

Its intense.
Its so graphically well explained, words sucks you in the story. Just as if you were there.

The twists and turns, the well elaborated plot and story, the romance that he entwines flawlessly into it... it’s more than suspense, more than a love story and it does stand up to the standards of a fantastic suspense romance.

You have no idea HOW much. Edge of retribution is overly intriguing, fascinating, captivating and it will catch you off guard. Jacob works his cards so well, play the background story so perfectly faultlessly, you don’t see the punches and jabs coming your way, and it’s fantastic. Every passionate readers loves to be swept of its feet and trust me, that’s exactly what Edge of retribution is about.

Nash is imperfectly perfect. Intense and complex. The knight in shining armour without all the coldness you see in a character like him normally. He’s every bit of the impassioned protector. Strong and turmoiled by his desires. And honestly, hot at hell because of all this.

Zoe is the survivor. And every strength of it. She’s smart and determined. Nash and Zoe are simply the perfect match and I love how Jacob worked the story around them. How he focused on both the romance and the suspense of this story equally. How he masterly orchestrated so both entwined together in a way he satisfies both thirsts equivalently.

There is no doubt in my mind that this style is perfect for Jacob. Because when Jacob work his beautiful pen into suspense romance, it’s like he dresses a perfectly tailored Armani suits that will distinguish him in the mass.

That’s what Edge of Retribution is.

And I definitely want Brennan “Belfast” story’s, Jacob. The guy is too hot, too great and I know in your hands, his story will be epic.

I don’t doubt this. Five stars, evidently and definitely!

This book was amazing. I literally read it in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down because I was so consumed with Nash and Zoe. This is one of those books that kept me guessing until the very end, because its action packed from start to finish.

Right from the very beginning, I was like woah did that really just happen! Talk about getting sucked in right from the first page. Although Zoe has been to hell and back literally, she is still such a strong sassy bad a chick. Zoe witnesses something no person should ever have to experience, and she is immediately thrown into protective custody. With Zoe’s whole world turning upside down, she never expected Nash, and he wasn’t expecting her either. Nash’s one job is to protect Zoe not get caught up in his feelings, but some things are better said than done. Just when things are going right everything is flipped upside down yet again.

Six long years later, Zoe and Nash are once again face to face. Can this time be different or will their past get in the way once again? I adored Nash. I swear he is totally swoon worthy. Zoe is also a very lovable chick. Not only is this book action packed, but it’s full of jaw dropping and heart stopping moments. Oh, and who can forget the amazing chemistry between Nash and Zoe. This is my favorite book by Jacob to date. It’s honestly one of the best stories I’ve read this year, and I really hope to see another book from two of my favorite side characters as well.

 Oh where do I begin?
It's no secret I'm a huge fan of Jacobs. I have been since his debut release, and now? Now I'm an even bigger fan, if that's possible. Romantic thrillers are my favorite genre, and even though this is Jacob's first true foray into this world, he knocked it out of the park!

The books start off fast and hard. There are some graphic moments, but those are needed to set the tone of the book. If you've read Jacob in the past, it might shock you a bit, but don't worry. His natural ability to weave magic through words will suck you in and keep hold of you until you come up for air and realize that you never put EoR down.

Zoe and Nash are two awesome characters. Zoe is only 18 when she experiences a trauma no person should ever have to go through.  During that time, Nash, tasked to protect Zoe, becomes her friend and confidant. But there's a chemistry between them that is undeniable.

Zoe is no weak girl. She's a kick-ass, take names kind of girl who isn't afraid of going after the bad guys. Strong heroine's are awesome, and Jacob certainly knows how to bring them to life. Nash is the take charge, lay his life down for you kind guy most women dream of.  Both well rounded and well written, and I would love to see more of them in the future.

There are some great secondary characters in this book, and one in particular - Belfast - that I'm really hoping Jacob brings us more of. I'm also hoping that he continues down this path of writing thrillers, because like all of his other books, they will just get better and better.
