One bad boss. One regrettable night. One laugh-out-loud romantic comedy!

I moved to New York to prove to everyone that I could — that I wasn’t the baby they all thought I was. So landing a plum job working for Logan Cartwright at the prestigious Cartwright Diamonds should have been a dream come true.

Then I show up for my first day, and my new boss has no idea who I am. He thinks I’m the Muffin Girl (whatever that is.)

Turns out, he only hired me because he thought I was a guy. (Thanks Mom and Dad, for naming me Blake. #notawkwardatall)

But I’m not letting go that easily. I need this job, and I’m damn well going to fight for it.

Even if Logan Cartwright happens to be the boss from hell.

Even if he keeps looking at me with those smoldering blue eyes.

Even if he kisses me in his limo. And again in his office.

Even if he happens to drive me equal parts crazy and wild.

Logan Cartwright might have a reputation to uphold — heartbreaker, tycoon, jackhole — but I have something to prove, too.

Let’s see who breaks first.

i’ll keep it short and sweet. Awful writing, as in ridiculous editing problems, cheap characters, boring story line. Don’t recommend reading it, I mean don’t do this to your poor brains, at worst you can always reread an old favourite.

Logan Cartwright, CEO of Cartwright Diamonds has a problem with keeping personal assistants, having gone through ten in the last year alone. The fact that he’s a bit of a dog lacking scruples hasn’t gone unnoticed by his board of directors, and he's strongly encouraged to hire a male assistant in the future. Enter Blake Holloway, baby of the family, all-around screw up, and desperately in need of a job since she’s moved to New York City from small-town Connecticut. After several mishaps en route to and arriving late for her first day at Cartwright Diamonds, it's quickly apparent to her stoic, somewhat scary boss that she is indeed NOT a male. And worse for Logan, Blake's can-do attitude, snappy comebacks and overall attractiveness quickly get under his skin.

This is an author I’ve been reading since her first published work, and she has quickly become an auto 1-Click for me. Yes, her books are troupe-y and might be perceived as cliché (billionaires may even be passé by now) but they’re just so darn fun to read! I find myself grinning, giggling and laughing out loud, while having my heart tugged by tender, poignant moments throughout the book. There's definitely great chemistry and plenty of steam between Logan and Blake, but it's the emotional depth that carries the biggest impact.

Both of these characters are damaged in their own way, each with a touching vulnerability that quickly draws the reader in. Blake is so determined to finally do things right in her life and quit being the sister who always messes up, and while she gets an A for effort, luck never quite seems to be on her side, providing delightful comedy for the reader and some major life lessons for Blake. Logan's issues are darker, deeper and long standing, easily evoking sympathy from the reader as details of his past are revealed. He has a strong need to control his environment and circumstances and doesn’t know what to make of Blake, who surprises him at every turn. Her spirit and ability to handle the unexpected with grace has him taking a second look at his carefully orchestrated and emotionless life. She brings color into his monochromatic world, and Blake and Logan's charming, humorous, evocative story is one you won’t want to miss.

Okay, I must preface this review by saying that I have read my fair share of romance novels, and a handful of them have has the 'alpha jerk' hero trope. I've read stories with asshole men, possessive men...ya di ya di ya. But none of them have bothered me as much as this one. Though alpha heroes aren't my preference, I've enjoyed several books with them.

My problem with this book was the way the hero thought about the women around him, specifically his sexrataries (not a mistake). He seems to use them as a convenient sex toy, and then fire them after - and he sees nothing wrong with this.

We live in an era of me too, where women strive to find a work environment where they are not objectified or harassed by men OR women in power.

Enter our heroine. I bought the book because I liked her...and I may have continued to like her. But Logan was despicable. The way he objectified her from the start, all the things he thought about her, were cringy. Maybe it was the way it was written, but that wasn't the breaking point for me. I was willing to chalk that up to a horny man (which men are). He never acted on it

Until he did.

Like I said we live in an age of consent. Now I do believe nonverbal cues are a thing, you can tell if a woman wants it.

But to be in a position of obvious power, and to just randomly kiss your secretary, after barely knowing her for 2 days, and doing so without having any inkling as to whether or not she wants it...is unacceptable. We may have gotten to see her perspective, but he did not. There was no banter or any sort of tension build up between the two which would make it natural. All we got is the guy thinking dirty thoughts, and then kissing her.

That's unacceptable. If that scene had happened a little later after some tension and chemistry was built, it may have been hot.

But what I for from this book is - it is apparently okay and supposedly sexy to have dirty thoughts about your new secretary (after being explicitly warned against banging ANOTHER one - because jee golly, you player you) and then force a kiss on her...which would lead to God knows what.

Books need to stop romanticizing this behaviour.

Nope. Can't do.

DNF at 8%.

I can't continue reading a book where the male lead prefers to hire women assistants because they look pretty in short skirts..Just because he looks handsome, he is still in a position of power over these women and shouldn't take advantage of them.

In Heartbreaker by Cat Carmine, this is the third installment of the series about three sisters who grew up in Connecticut but relocated to New York. In The Deal Breaker and The Rule Breaker, her sisters, Emma and Rori, find love. In this book, it’s their younger sister, Blake’s, turn. I really love reading stories that are part of a series because you get to know what happens next to people who have come to feel like family. I read all three books and highly recommend them.

Blake’s character is so unique and charming that you love her from the start. She’s smart and passionate, and the way she meets Logan Cartwright, CEO of Cartwright Diamonds, is hilarious. She recently moved to NYC to be close to her sisters and is not having much luck in the employment department when opportunity literally rings on her cell phone. Of course she is hired as his personal assistant so is naturally off-limits, but the way she stands up to him and proudly takes on any challenge he dishes out is inspiring. Blake is all kinds of sexy and sassy and was willing to work hard to make her dreams come true.

Logan never met anyone like Blake, and it was nice to see him be caught of guard and open up to her. Their connection and attraction to one another is undeniable and I couldn’t stop reading so I could see what happened next. This book had me laughing out loud and routing for the two of them the entire time.

Even though Logan tried to act like a tough guy and that he was in control, he was vulnerable and had trouble committing because of a past relationship. It was so sweet how he interacted with his mom, sister, niece, and nephew, and how he was in awe of Blake who treated him like a regular man. He knew his relationship with Blake was different and he couldn’t stay away. She was there for him whenever he needed her, and he loved her reasoning, how she tried to explain different situations, which was always a hoot.

Even though she was young, when faced with an unexpected situation towards the end of the book, she followed her heart with grace and maturity and finally got her HEA, too. I admire how Logan fought for her and gained her trust as well. The two of them were a perfect match and I really enjoyed reading their journey.

I also liked her parents who owned a flower shop and were featured in this story as well as the past two books. It’s nice to read about extended family as in many books today the parents are dead or did something horrific to traumatize the hero or heroine.

I received an advanced copy of this book for my honest review.

FMC: Hard to imagine a person so (and I hate to use this word, but no other will do) stupid. She moves to NYC without a job and any research. I'm okay with her being surprised about how much everything costs, because that makes sense. But she has had 5 jobs in 2 months. She keeps quitting - all for good reasons - but we cannot understand why she takes these jobs to begin with and why on earth did she not have a job before moving to the city (she's only from CT and could have figured this out from there!). The last job she quits is a "massage" parlor. She said she had "high hopes" for it even though the email was something like "big.pr!ck.energy" or something like that. High hopes? Seriously?

So FMC is 5 jobs down and gets a call where she is completely disgusting to the caller (by accident, of course - eye roll) and is told to report the next day. She asks no questions and basically sounds like an idiot the entire call. When she has to report the next day, she does this:
*Misses her alarm and wakes up late, even though her alarm is notoriously bad (she says), she sets no back up
*Takes the train in the wrong direction
*Still gets to the office 10 mns early and decides to buy muffins instead of going inside.

She is then 10 mns late to her new job - the first one that sounds halfway decent.

MMC - Such an arrogant glassbowl, who sleeps with his assistants (YUCK). There is nothing redeeming about him.

I had to stop. How do people write such horrible characters? These two people are so eminently unlikeable I had to stop reading.

This was a super fun book to read. I almost felt like I was watching a chick rom com unfold before my eyes. It had all the elements of it. Main girl who was a klutz, desperate and broke, gets a job with a hottie rich boss. I mean it’s rom com gold. And it was funny too.

Blake is at her white end in trying to land a job in NYC. After moving here two months ago and finding nothing she thinks she might have to move back to Connecticut. Then she get a callback of a job at the prestigious Cartwright Diamonds for an executive assistant. She takes it. What ensues when she meets Logan will have you laughing and shaking your head. Logan Cartwright basically sleeps with assistants, so he is told to hire a man. She he hires Blake. Well what a surprise when ‘he’ turns up in a flowy skirt and gorgeous long blonde hair. He is so turned on he has to fire her. But Blake needs this job so she does whatever it takes to prove her worth. Well and that she is completely turned on by Logan. And his touch is electric on her skin.

This book is full of do’s and dont’s. But it’s funny. It has tough decisions to be made in it. Blake is stuck in a very big decision and she has no idea if Logan wants to go on the ride with her. It could change everything. This was a fun book.

How do I describe the heroine in this book? Clumsy dumb bimbo with literally no brains at all. For example, at one point the heroin tells her that his competitor met with a potential client of his and she says, "And that's bad??" I mean seriously how dumb can you be to not understand that? She is just totally clueless about the most basic things. Then there is the fact that, despite living in NYC for more than a month, she somehow doesn't know how the trains work. And then somehow she accidentally breaks a law at some point because she is a total airhead. Almost everything the heroine does in the book is so incredibly cringe-y that I barely made it through the book at all. I guess some readers can handle this type of character, but nothing in her behavior was appealing or endearing to me...

And then I wasn't at all that convinced by the supposed romance with the heroin. Why does he suddenly fall for the heroine after going through so many other women? It just doesn't really make any sense and there isn't much development there. I guess she is the hottest of them all?

The writing wasn't horrible but the characters were underwhelming and in the case of the heroine, really annoying.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..This is the 3rd book in the this series. I hope you are starting from the beginning so that you know who is who and and what they are to each other. This is Blake's story, she is the youngest of the Holloway sisters, she is now trying to prove that she can make it out on her own but she is not having success so far. Logan is looking for a new assistant since he has already gone thru about ten this year, and most of them because he slept with them and then fired them, so now he is kind of on probation and has to hire a new assistant preferably male since he is being watched. He hires Blake by mistake thinking she is a male, but he had only had her resume as a favor to his friend ty. The minute they meet the chemistry is off the charts, but he intends to fight it by acting as he is known for being an asshole. Blake really needs this job so she is not going to fall for her boss and refuses to let him get to her..But.... that is not what happens, read it my friends it is entertaining..Enjoy!

Deliciously hilarious rom-com with ALL the feels!

From the very first outrageous yet perfectly appropriate line, I was hooked! Blake is a delightfully klutzy yet brilliant heroine and I loved her right from the start.

Logan has been ordered to stop his revolving door of assistants/hookups by hiring a man for the daunting position. Blake's resume happens to land on top, and she's offered the job without an interview. Right from the very first second of their awkward meeting, it's clear that the sparks are gonna fly between these two!

The witty, incisive inner dialogues of both main characters are finely crafted by an expert wordsmith. But this is no light and frothy romp; there are some serious issues involved, and they're bravely addressed head-on. Secrets are held close to the vest, yet we completely understand why. Blake and Logan both have a long road of personal growth on their way to their HEA, and each step is beautifully done. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Mr. Logan Cartwright is a ladies man alright! He can’t seem to keep it in his pants especially after losing the love of his life. It seems like it’s the only way for him to let loose.

Maybe that’s why he cannot seem to keep a personal assistant, and after 10 of them walking out he’s been on a leash to control it or lose it.

So when Blake comes into the picture all bets are off!

Blake moves away to try something new, after helping run her family’s business, she wants to explore different options and so far it’s not going the way she planned.

But after landing a job at Cartwright’s she thinks she may be over her head when she sees who her boss is.

Amazing chemistry, and I loved the tangle between these two. It just makes you realize that it can be difficult to mix work and relationship altogether.

Great story.

Not what I expected. Not at all. But that is in the most positive way. Billionairestories are normally much alike each other but this one surprised me. I liked it a lot. Well written story with a nice storyline and plot. I like that the characters and how they develop.
A passionate and emotional read with twists. Enjoyable and recommendable.

It is written in dual POV which gives the reader much more of the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. The epilogue is very welcomed and gives the story more to it and it finishes it better of than without it.
There are passion, drama, regret, issues in the past, hurt, hot scenes and lots of chemistry in this amazing story.
It is fun, steamy, sexy, emotional and has nice twists.

Blake Holloway is fresh off a small town family owned florist shop job trying to make it in the big city. After a couple of unsavory jobs she had to walk away from, she lucks into her dream job being a PA to Logan a playboy CEO of a Diamond Company. Logan's previous PAs have not lasted long because of his playboy ways so his board advises him to hire a male PA. Logan hires Blake because he thought she was a male. Can Blake proof she is just what he and his company need? Be sure to read this delightfully funny romance to see how love will always find a way.

Cat Carmine has a wick sense of humor and knows how to engage her readers.

Blake Holloway hasn't had much luck since moving to New York - she's been sacked, walked out of jobs on the first day and sent out hundreds of resumes but still nothing. After leaving her last dead end job she gets a job offer, it's the best job offer she's had so far and she's determined to be the best damn PA Logan Cartwright could ever dream of... Except Logan envisioned "Blake" as a male... After all it's what he was told the board of his company wanted for their CEO to clean up his act and stop hiring female PA's.

When Blake turns up Logan is determined not to interact with her, she's everything that could tempt him to forget what the board wants and have his way with her, he's determined she's not going tto work for him, but when she proves worthy of a job he changes his mind... And that is a dangerous thing when the two of them are clearly attracted to each other.

The closer they work together the more Logan realises he needs this woman in his life in more ways than one, but will the sassy Blake fall for his charms given his reputation? And then Blake falls pregnant shes a failure just like her sisters said she would be, but the choice is easy when her Father has a heart attack and she chooses not to return to the city. She should've told Logan, and when he does find out will he go after her and get what's his?

I enjoyed this book, the characters were well developed and had quirky personalities that shone through in the writing - something I appreciate. The chemistry between the two main characters was well worth the read. I recommend this book if you're into romantic stories written with humour.

Once again with The Heartbreaker Cat Carmine has managed to make me laugh, cry, learn a lot about love as it really is and a great page turner in this amazing read! Logan Cartwright has been looking for the perfect PA but has he found it In the beautiful klutz Blake ? He only knows that Blake is off-limits, no fraternisation or the board of Cartwright Diamonds will walk away! Can he manage to keep away from his muffin girl this time? I loved the storyline, the characters, who all gelled perfectly in this superb read!

Another Great 5 ⭐️ Hit By Cat

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book, The Heartbreaker by Cat Carmine.

Blake is determined to prove she can make it on her own, to her family. Logan hired her (sight unseen) thinking she was a man and is NOT happy to find out otherwise. Blake needs the job and is dead set on keeping it. Will this end up being a complete disaster or the best thing that happened to both of them?

Written in Cat’s own special style, with heat, passion, family and love. Hope y’all enjoy this wonderful book as much I have!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. From the first sentence this book captured my attention. "The Semen made me do it". Now tell me who wouldn't want to continue reading after that line. This story just continued to get more hilarious and intriguing after that. Blake was the perfect blend of funny, sexy, sweet, determined with an outrageous imagination. Which was exactly what Lucas needed to bring some fun and light to his life. Cat Carmine'sbooks always keep me laughing whether or not I want to which why I always enjoy the hell out of stories.

Sweet romance of billionaire CEO falling in love with a small town girl, who thinks her life is one screw up after another. Blake wants to be a successful New Yorker just like her sisters. After a series a questionable jobs, she manages to get hired with Cartwright diamonds. I laughed about her antics in trying to give her best effort to her boss, Logan. Great story of facing your fears and not being afraid to face life.

This is a great addition to the Breaker series. Blake was adorable in her series of unfortunate jobs. I loved how this one started with her at the massage parlor. It was surprising and you had to find out what in the world was happening. Nice hook. Her relationship with Logan was spicy and hot. She was sassy and sexy. I enjoyed the family ties with her sisters and her parents.

I loved perfect blend of romance and comedy in this rom-com. I liked the protagonists. The male protagonist was common alpha male. I loved how he changed so much due to his love for Blake (the female protagonist). Blake was quite different from any other female lead I had read previously. The best part about the story was the awesome HEA ending. I have liked most of Cat’s book and look forward to reading more books by her.

Good storyline, well written, weak ending

Good read. Had me engaged until the ending. Then, it was gift wrapped and hard to swallow. His character was completely changed in the last few chapters. One could argue that once you’ve made up your mind, all the burdens are lifted and it’s smooth sailing. However, he just wasn’t believable in the end. I still recommend it. Good story. A few laugh out loud moments. Worth it.

Even though I like Cat Carmine's books, I admit I chose this one just to hear Rock Engle read it. He is by far my favorite narrator.

I have smiled and laughed at some of the things in this story. It's light, which I needed after my last read.
Typical romance. Unlikely pair. Rich, arrogant, tall, handsome,
well endowed, damaged man. Quirky, beautiful, built, funny, smart, independent woman. It's just that Ms. Carmine does it so much better than others.

The best of the series

I wasn't sure if would like another boss- assistant romance but this one hit the mark. Not as much sex as book 2 but lots of feels without too much angst. Even when these books are actually funny, they rarely make me actually laugh out loud but this one surprised me with a few spots that were canny. I would say 6.2/10 sex o meter (not equality in oral and needed one more sex scene I thought). But definitely 4.8/5 overall.

Loved the story of Logan and Blake. It's full of humor, twists and an overabundance of chemistry. You'll find that it's hard to put down once you start reading. He's her boss and he hired her because he thought she was a man and the story gets more fun. Well written with well-developed characters and an entertaining story.
