I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and I voluntarily leave my review.
Wow this is one amazing read and my 1st read and review for this author. This story starts with a bang there’s so much action, suspense, danger and passion it just kept me reading right up until the end. I’m just going to give a short take on this story, Nicholas Archer aka Nick Prophet is the name he goes by, he helps the big bad criminals move the illegal containers of cargo off the docks and onto the trains but this time he had stolen a shipment of guns from another criminal without even knowing so now he is on the run. There’s another problem he accidentally got a woman involved and now she’s on the run just like him. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning right up until the end it was fantastic. A 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Listened to the audiobook. Jason Clarke and Savanah Peachwood did a great job. I'ts a romantic, dark suspense story with a crime storyline. Jason has the perfect deep voice for the main character.
Maggie is a strong lead, runs her own business and can look after herself, Prophet, well his is a protector with trust issues and in his line of work that's understandable.

This was a great read. Nick & Maggie had amazing chemistry from the first scene of mistaken identity. But their story certainly isn't an easy one. Nope. Plenty of twists & turns & betrayals in this one had me reading as fast as I could to find out what was next. Recommend if you're looking for an action packed read.

The wrong place at the wrong time… That is how Nick and Maggie first meet and then end up with their lives intertwined in the middle of a battle that neither saw coming. Nick is a criminal who makes his living doing jobs. After Nick is betrayed and left as the fall guy, they both end up on the run from men gunning for their lives. They struggle to work together while being at each other’s throats. However, as they begin to untangle the web of lies that unknowingly surrounds them both, they begin to give into the attraction that simmers between them.

This story is filled with a ton of action, steam, and a plot twist that neither character sees coming. Nick really evolves as he struggles to figure out how he feels about Maggie and learns to put someone else first, instead of himself. When Maggie changes from a means to an end, to someone he cares about, the story really took an interesting turn. Overall, I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers romance with fantastic narration by Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood. I thought they fit both the characters very well. I couldn’t put my headphones down and love how this story introduced us to several characters I want to know more about. I can’t wait to continue the series. Overall, I really enjoyed this story in audio, and it kept me in good company on a busy day of housework.

I enjoyed this book so much! It's a bit dirty, dark, and gritty but that's part of what I like about it. There's plenty of action and the pasts of both Nick and Maggie play integral roles with how things play out.

I really like how Maggie stuck to her guns, even when it was unknowingly against her own best interests. As for Nick, he keeps things VERY close to the vest, struggling to let anyone in, including his family and best friends. It makes those tender moments even more special.

I love that there are interactions with Kit and Caro, who get their turn at the spotlight in the next book of the series. (Yes, I read / listened to them out of order. It was fine. There are some spoilers when doing it that way but nothing to prevent you from enjoying the books no matter the order.)

Speaking of listening, I had the pleasure of listening and reading this book. I liked both narrators - Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood.

Please note that there are some trigger warnings to heed. Organized crime and the messy business that often accompanies it is present, including physical assault and the threat of sexual assault.

Read this in the Protecting The Enemy Anthology and loved it. It had me right from beginning so much happens with Nick and Maggie i could not stop had to keep reading to find out how they deal with everything and how it turns out. Look forward to reading more books from this author!

Nick and Maggie have a meet cute that’s more like a murder cute, or at least a hand-to-hand-combat cute and boy, does it get the reader's attention and start the book off with a bang! Then West continues the momentum throughout the book with plenty of tension, suspense, drama and intrigue. I wasn’t sure whether to love Nick Prophet or hate him, and along with the strong, smart, independent, wonderful heroine, Maggie, I did both at various times throughout the book.

There is an abundance of push and pull between Nick and Maggie, along with tons of slow, sizzling chemistry. This is one wild, frenetic, spellbinding ride and all I could do was hang on tight until the conclusion that arrived much too quickly for my satisfaction. Maggie, Nick and his best friend Kit (who needs his own book) all quickly owned my heart and I hated to let them go, as will you when you read this exciting, sexy, intense, phenomenal book!
