Mount View Middle School Named 2020 National Blue Ribbon School

September 25th, 2020

The U.S. Department of Education recently recognized Mount View Middle School as one of 367 National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2020. Mount View was selected for the Exemplary High Performing Schools category, which honors the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Mount View Middle School received a five out of five star rating from the most recent Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) School Report Card, which looks at factors such as academic achievement, rate of chronic absenteeism and access to a well-rounded curriculum. On state tests, 77.1% of Mount View Middle School students scored as proficient or higher in math and 79% of students in English Language Arts.

“I’m thrilled to congratulate Mount View Middle School for earning a National Blue Ribbon School award,” said HCPSS Superintendent Michael J. Martirano. “Thank you to our wonderful Mount View staff, parents and students for their commitment to supporting student achievement.”

“Congratulations to Mount View Middle School for being named a National Blue Ribbon School,” said Board of Education Chair Mavis Ellis. “We’re incredibly proud of your work to ensure the success of all Mount View students.”

“A heartfelt congratulations to Mount View Middle for being named a Blue Ribbon School,” said County Executive Calvin Ball. “This recognition speaks to the incredible educators and school community who put so much passion and dedication into helping all of our children grow and thrive. We are so proud of our Falcons and the Howard County Public School System for this distinguished accomplishment.”

Other Howard County schools earning Blue Ribbon honors in prior years include Centennial Lane, Clarksville, Manor Woods and Waterloo elementary schools; Burleigh Manor, Clarksville, Ellicott Mills, Folly Quarter, Hammond and Lime Kiln middle schools; and River Hill High School.

The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually Nov. 12 and 13. Photographs and brief descriptions of the 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools are available on the U.S. Department of Education website.
