TRIPOLI, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Wednesday said it held training sessions for dozens of Libyan security personnel from different parts of the country.

"Over the course of three weeks, IOM organized training sessions on Humanitarian Border Management for 77 Libyan border guards and border security officers from Ghadames, Ras Jedir, and Msaed," IOM said in a statement.

"The training is meant to strengthen and build on skills of the Libyan authorities, while also identifying and addressing vulnerable migrants who needed humanitarian support," the statement added.

Libyan security services struggle to train and equip their personnel, as the country suffers insecurity and chaos as well as domination of armed groups and militias that operate independently from the authorities.

Thousands of illegal immigrants choose to cross the Mediterranean from Libya to Europe, due to the state of insecurity that followed the fall of the late leader Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
