Welcome to ASPiH

The Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare was established in 2008. In it 15 years as a membership association it has grown and evolved both in its activities that support our members and in its relationship with other societies and commercial partners in the wider simulation community.

The Association considers that all individuals involved in the design, delivery, evaluation, and translation of simulated practice should adhere to the ASPiH 2023 core values of

  1. safety
  2. equity, diversity and inclusion
  3. sustainability
  4. excellence

Each year we hold an annual conference and network meeting. The conference themes are chosen to help us explore, share and evaluate something that we feel is important, current or innovative.

In recent years, we have focused on equity, diversity and inclusion and sustainability and in 2024 our conference theme is focusing on transformative simulation which is a simulation paradigm shift. As we celebrate 15 years as the Association for Simulation in Healthcare Practice we invite you all to help us explore, collaborate, innovate, research, evaluate and of course celebrate this exciting and evolving modality.

Colette Laws-Chapman, President (2023-2025)

The website is designed to keep our simulation community up to date with the latest news and developments.

Let us work together; share learning, celebrate achievements and capture the detail, so that cohesion and consistency can be delivered for the benefit of both faculty members and learners alike.

ASPiH Conference 2024!

Annual General Meeting - AGM

The next AGM is being held via Microsoft Teams on 15th April 2024 9:00-10:30am

Beakerhealth

In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, access to top-tier simulation content is not just an advantage—it's a necessity. The Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) and Beaker Health are proud to present an unparalleled opportunity for it's members to join the ASPiH Portal.

The ASPiH Portal is a repository of digital resources from previous ASPiH conferences, journal club meetings and webinars. It is the intention of ASPiH to grow this Portal to become the largest repository of simulation related content in the UK and Ireland.

To achieve this ambitious goal, ASPiH will be hosting two webinars to showcase our vision for the ASPiH Portal and how our members and partner organisations can get involved.

The dates for the webinar are as follows:

Wednesday 27th March, 1800 - 1900hrs.

Wednesday 17th April, 1800 - 1900hrs.

You can book your space on a webinar by emailing admin@aspih.org.uk

Framework

Improving Quality through Simulation

This framework is the product of a collaboration between Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) and the Society for Simulation in Europe (SESAM).

It is a novel step-by-step guide to the collaborative design of simulation-based interventions to improve patient safety, including who to engage and how to incorporate best practice. It also signposts to guidance for intervention evaluation and further information through links embedded in the text.

It aims to be useful to anybody in the health and care community that wishes to be involved in developing a simulation response following an event or, more widely, improvement through the use of simulation.

Improving quality through simulation, a quality improvement based framework to guide simulation interventions following key events in healthcare.

Diaz-Navarro C, Jones B, Pugh G, Moneypenny M, Lazarovici M and Grant D, March 2023.
