universities are looking at how to get students back to class this fall semester, they're also tasked with making decisions on study abroad programs. Nbc 26's juliana falk checked in with uw-green bay and st norbert college to learn more about the status of international studies this fall. For many students...the opportunity to study abroad is one they've been waiting for. "many students that I've talked to planned their entire undergraduate careers to study abroad and they're maybe in their final year and now they can participate in that." at uw-green bay... This is the situation for some students as the univserity has made the decision to suspend study abroad programs for the fall semester. "We kind of took it program by program depending on how much time was needed to students to secure visas, make travel arrangements, book courses , those types of things." he said a lot of things go into assessing programs.. Including looking at cdc and state deaprtments guidance. As for st. Norbert college, we're told four out of 17 fall study abroad programs have been suspended. "we're looking at making deciisons for each program 60 days prior to the program's start date." the director of study abroad and off campus programs says a majority of programs will be decided on in mid- july. "we're still trying to be creative about still offering international experiences for students." something like a virutal exchange program to allow students to be in an international classroom even if they're in de pere. And at uw-gb.. "we have moved some of the students to a new program where we're placing students in internships that are being conducted remotely." the student stays in wisconsin working with companies across the globe, including in london, sydney, buenos aires, and cape town. "we'res till trying to fulfill that mission and those learning objectives of international education while w ehave a temporary pause on student mobility. But it will come back." he says when it does, the university and students will be ready. Juliana falk nbc 26. Uw-gb says the international virtual internships will liekly continue even when physical travel resumes. Meantime uw-gb released more details about their plans to open-- in phases. Phase one begins today, july first. That's when faculty and staff who must be on campus to do their jobs... Return to their offices . Staff will be asked to implement social distancing..... Wear a mask.... And adhere to stricter cleaning practices. "....."It's for us to make sure that we're starting slowly in how we're re- opening. Learning from this slow start and making sure that we keep everything really, really safe moving forward." :10......." staff who can work from home are encouraged to continue to do so.
