Lawrence Union Pacific Depot

located at 402 North Second Street

The Lawrence Union Pacific Depot, owned by the City of Lawrence, operated by the Lawrence Parks & Recreation Department, was completely restored in March of 1996.The trains that still come by every 12 to 15 minutes preserve the original atmosphere of the Depot. The Depot offers two rooms for public use, the Community Room and the Arden Booth Free State Theater Room.

The Community Room is 24′ x 46′ with capacity for 159 people standing room only and 70 people seated. It is used for a variety of events including weddings, receptions, reunions, meetings and educational seminars. Tables and chairs are included in the rental fee. Additional features include:

  • Kitchenette with a microwave, refrigerator and two burner stove top
  • Desktop Podium

The Arden Booth Free State Theatre Room is 12′ x 28′ with capacity for 49 people standing room only or 38 people seated. Tables and chairs are included in the rental fee. A VHS video viewing system is available for a small fee.

The Union Pacific Depot includes an Outdoor French Theme Flower Garden, maintained by the Parks & Recreation Department’s professional landscaping staff. The garden’s spectacular array of colors in the summer makes for an ideal place for outside events.

Small bands or DJ’s are allowed with prior permission. Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance and are on a space available basis.Tours of the facility are available prior to renting.
